Description
This was harder to make the cap work than I thought. Hence why Husso is LTIR'd lol.

Am unsure on resigning Kane - but in this case I did. Ideally young forwards like Danielson and Kasper can make the team and so we are not looking to resign all of Sprong, Perron, Kane. Intent to resign Kane makes Berrgren expendable, despite how sad it will make me.

I was personally against the idea of spending at the deadline, but am starting to give it more serious thought with how exponentially better this makes our defence for next season, and allows us a much higher likelihood of making this years playoffs. Berggren and Johansson are 2nd round picks that have turned into good results as likely NHL players - imo fairly valuable to Calgary to get a couple guys like this. Losing Burgers hurts, but we have a fairly set group for the next few years up front. In the back end, we are in a much better position with this group to make the lives of Seider-Walman easier next season. Without Johansson, we still have prospects on D of Wallinder, ASP, Tuomisto, Buium, Gibson, etc.

L1: Kasper - Larkin - Raymond
Larkin and Raymond are good enough to be an L1 on a mid team. Hopefully Kasper can add an element of tenacity and 200 ft play that bumps up their play even more. This is where I'd like to get him a shot in the NHL. Believe Kasper can help Raymond reach 70-80+ pts with his style of play.
L2: Cat - Compher - Kane
Big reason for resigning Kane to play with Cat. Gives us decent 2nd line scoring with a reliable enough C in Compher.
L3: Ras - Danielson - Copp
This is where I am excited about this forward group. Copp and Ras have proven to play well together. Danielson makes this an even better checking line while bringing some offence as well. I would expect this line could be exceptional for us.
L4: Fabbri - Veleno - Mazur/Kostin
Would be worried about this line getting caved in. Not sure what I would propose we do differently. Maybe try to sign Fischer.

Petry and Chiarot in an even more sheltered role next season would be a great result for us defensively.

its always a risky move to build out a roster that will rely on 4 rookies with a combined 12 nhl games playing important roles

We're Detroit not Buffalo, Buffalo adding a lot of rooies hasn't worked out well for them this year.

Flames decline. No 1st this year, no interest in an undersized middle 6 winger, no interest in a C level defense prospect

31m for seven Dmen doesn't seem wise.

Mazur is pencilled in as sharing that spot as in, he is competing for it. So let’s call it 3. Is that all that crazy? Our roster will be better suited to absorb it with lower changeover, and a more complete and competitive established team. That’s why they weren’t willing to do it previously. 3 top 10 picks with only 1 not having pro experience

Edit: forgot I have Cossa in here. Let’s just pretend he’s not really there.

The thing is, rookie’s rarely have a huge impact. Look at the Calder race this year, maybe 4 or 5 guys total on the league are being meaningful top end contributors for their team. Everyone else is plying at replacement level.

So adding 3 rookies to play top 4 D, 3C, and 1LW is a big gamble. There will be a lot of growing pains and your limiting your ability to shelter their minutes.

Simon is a good bet for it no matter what. So I'd leave him out of it, especially considering it would be fairly easy to shelter his minutes with this D. Basically Hanifin an upgrade on Ghost and Simon replacing Maata - should be an improvement in both cases. But I agree with you up front. I just think they're both cerebral players that I hope can handle it. Both good skaters and coming into a good environment. Not necessarily asking too much of them given their linemates. In order to improve on this year, they would need to be good, but it might be more about getting them in there so we can improve the following years.

Can’t see the Flames doing this. Not for Berggren as the center piece “prospect”.
