Using a fourth period rumour and changing it

Created by: hockeynutter
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 23, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dumba is a rental but if he improves his play with Reilly he could be a future resign option. Boqvist has more wpotential than Timmins but has trouble staying healthy. He could potentially still grow into his top four expected ceiling. This gives us affordable depth next year where we would need to add an LD or resign Brodie for a much more affordable deal like just over a million. This is a not an ideal top contending playoff Blueline but there is potential in it. We also gather back assets to allow the trades.

I would love Dumba

He is a younger, right-handed version of Muzzin imo.

His shot would pair well with Mo's passing mentality as well.

He has not been the same as we saw the past couple years but we are essentially dropping out our picks in the above trade for a rental. It give Dumba a better partner and a chance to see if they should have offered Dumba multiple years over the offseason. Insiders stated we talked to him before Klingberg but Dumba was holding out for multiple year signing.

Could be perfect. It is an apples to apples replacement for Klingberg (other than stylistically lol) and with another cap increase expected this summer there will be more flexibility to sign Dumba to a multi-year deal if he proves himself down the stretch.

From what I can tell, he has never been the same since coming back from his ruptured peck in 2018.. I imagine that is not an easy injury to rehab for hockey players since you use your pecks extensively when shooting or passing. Who knows if he can ever get back to his pre-2018 form again though

You're better off keeping Timmins for your third pair. Boqvist is a soft, small offensive D.

I would not argue the idea. The idea is that Boqvist still has potential to come close to his ceiling where Timmins looks maybe reach as a bottom pair offensive defenseman. That being said, this is still a risk and could backfire and keeping Timmins save on $$$ whilst keeping a defender you know

You’re going to have to significantly lower that pick swap to make it worthwhile for the Leafs. Maybe like a 3rd for 5th?

That pick swap was quoting a rumour from the fourth period and using their proposals. The idea behind the swap I think was to give Arizona another first round pick while giving the Leafs a pick for other moves if they feel necessary. I can actually see the arguments for both sides of the coin and reasons behind it.
The initial proposal was using said 2nd from Arizona to Calgary for Tanev.
