Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Vegas, Vancouver, Edmonton, and Colorado are in win now modes and are looking to bolster their own rosters, while making sure players do go to the other 3 teams. They are all willing to spend a little extra to make sure they improve while their opponents do not. A lot of times this means they don't get best fit guys but keep their opponents from getting a best fit guy.
Vegas has space to spend for this year with all the IR money.
Colorado and Edmonton think they're a goalie away from a cup.
Vancouver might think they've got what they need, but don't want the other 3 to improve.
All of this drives up prices towards overpayment for what they may be worth in the off season or early in the year.

The opening of Cap space also allows us to broker a deal between to other teams for rentals that we can acquire extra picks.

I don’t think Reilly Smith wants to play for the Panthers again after we dumped him to Vegas during their expansion draft.

Avs accept.
Vegas adding Guentzel would spice their lines up once Stone and Eichel magically return in time for Game 1 in EDM.
Coyotes miiiight accept, not really sure abt that one

I don't know what's worse, the Edmonton trade or the Calgary trade.

Sharks pass. Last time they moved down in the 1st round they went from 11 to 27 and got two 2nd rounders, one being early 2nd and the other a mid 2nd. I don’t see this as anywhere close to that

If those four teams get into a bidding war, the price isn't that high for Vegas... and they'd really have a great offense once everyone is healthy in the playoffs. A couple of lottery picks (even if they're odds are good) are a very cheap price for a Stanley cup.

So this trade gives them a mid to late first and a mid to late second. Fair value compared the two 2nds they got before... and it's not their pick they're trading. They'll still have their own high first.

Hallum reminds me of Stevenson, not really interested in moving him and 2 firsts for a rental, is absolutely an overpay
