    3.
    PIT

    4.

Ceci makes too much to justify him being buried behind the big minute eating Letang and Karlsson. Having a 3rd pair RD making 3.25 million behind those two would just be poor roster construction. Not to mention that we could get a late 2nd for a retained Nedeljkovic on his own.

Carter isn’t leaving. At least there are only a few more months left of the Hextall mistake that was that bad contract extension. Lastly, SJ can get more in return for those guys, who would probably be dealt separately.

Sharks aren’t going to just help out the Pens without an incentive. You don’t get BOGO trades in the NHL.

I don't even want Barabanov at this point; he's barely worth a 4th. Duclair gets a 3rd though.

"his has to be the last year they truly go for it or Sid & the old core need to be traded."

Trouble is the aging core has very restrictive M NTCs or NMCs. Teams aren't interested in non value contracts. Crosby might the only tradable guy for those making 5m and more.

Ceci adds depth on D and hopefully some stability to the poor 3LDs this season. Injuries happen and Ceci can play up when needed.
Ned is a rental making 1.1M, no retention needed in 98% of cases. A 2nd is a steep price for a rental backup!
Carter can leave, it's just on him. Until the TDL is past I'll keep hoping.
Duclair has 19pts, Barabonov has 9pts... While getting more mins than they deserve cuz they play on a garbage team...They're rentals...
    Need any more reasons?

NMC/NTC can be worked around. Karlsson came to PIT waiving. There will be teams making calls if the core is available, especially if PIT rebuilds and retains!

Sure players will waive if they believe they are going to a better situation. The Sharks are awful (even with EK) so EK was happy to mo ve
Trading NMCs or M NTCs with big contracts to superior teams is difficult cause good team don't have cap.
It's not like EK is on an expiring contract, it's three full seasons.
I'd welcome any logical trade suggestions for these players. but are there any?

PIT will be a bad situation if they miss the playoffs!
Those competitive teams will have value contract & RFAs that need to be re-signed they can move to acquire retained veterans with term. Plenty of teams have needs for 1RD, 1C, 2C, 1RW, 2RW...

The Ceci hate in EDM is overblown. Typical EDM whipping boy BS
EDM needs a shutdown RD. Ceci is a capable 2RD if he were playing with a better partner than Nurse. If you want to crap on someone, that 9.25M is almost as bad as Campbell's 5M in the AHL.

VGK probably is going to do that
PIT declines that EDM deal, the penguins don't need to add another $3M to their blue line
Jeff Carter is not waiving, they bough a house in PIttsburgh, he's not moving his family, he's retiring here. Just don't waste your time with that.
SJS declines, they'll get a higher pick for Duclair.

This is also not the last year to go for it with the core, they'll retool again in the summer and try again.

    PIT 3rd pairing is atrocious!
Until Carter remains in PIT after the TDL I'm going to keep hoping that he comes to his senses and realizes how awful he is to this desperate team.
Duclair is a 3rd liner at best on a playoff team... SJS can retain for a 3rd but they have 1 slot left which I assume is better spent on Granlund or Hoffman!

Retool could happen but that means Guentzel is gone. Might as well mail it in because next season is just going to be worse!

You don't spend $3.25M for a depth dman. It's called asset management. Have you heard of it?

I have a question. With the Pitt 2024 1st sent to SJ with the condition of the top 10 protection rolling to 2025 if its in the top 10, are they even allowed to move the 2025 1st?

If you're dismissing asset management then you're showing you don't really know what you're talking about.

Also, if you're thinking the defensive depth is their problem then you're also showing that you have no understanding of what's wrong with the Pens.

Since the conditions say PIT has the option to move it to a 2025 1st then I assume they would waive that option entirely if they decided to move the 2025 1st. That would mean the "top 10" protection would become irrelevant.

Wrong! It's a PIT option. They can waive and trade the 2025 1st if they want
