One trade I have been eying is to maybe flip Jones and then bring someone whose cleared waivers to be the #3 but yea so far nothing crazy


VGK taught us big Dcores win and if we look in the playoffs analytics go out the window and the guys who thrive are bruisers and rats. Sure some skill is also good but look at FLA best line

Nick Cousins-Sam Bennett-Matthew Tkachuck 2 rats and a bruiser

Heck look at Edmunson in TOR vs. MTL this man got a 5k fine for crosschecking someone in the face. Rielly 5 games lul. But anyways this gets interesting


Ya...not sure how much we'd get for him...likely not more than a 5th...but if we have the cap space to nab a late pick and then claim, say, Raanta to be the 3rd goalie...sure...why not.

Wedgewood went for a 4th but it became a 3rd if Dal made the playoffs

So many teams be desperate for a goalie and hes under 1m

On Jones, I could see a 3 team trade with Jones going to 1 team, a guy coming back to TO and a pick going to the the 3rd team

Or the Leafs could retain 50% and could prob get a 3rd+ or a 2nd as 400K for a serviceable goalie is valuable

We acquired Cade Webber from Carolina for a 2026 6th. I really like this for us

My idea send him to PHI for a 4th that becomes a 3rd if PHI make playoffs or win a round

Then go spend a 5th on Hellberg from Pitt whose passed through waivers and should be a fine #3. Frees some cap and they still have insurance

His rights expire in August (I believe the 15th), but I feel like there would've been a fair amount of competition for the guy. He blocked 100 shots in just 28 games this season which is absolutely insane. He skates super well, and is 6'6 which helps. No harm in trading a future late pick for a guy like that. Probably wasn't going to have a shot at the NHL if he stuck with the Canes given their amount of defensive depth

He's averaged 3.6 blocked shots per game(!) this season...

PHI since Hart had the incident feel more desperate. Thats why I chose them

I think NJ is waiting for Markstrom trade this summer

This could cover NJ until the Markstrom trade as I feel they want to try to compete this year while regaining asset for Toffoli and jones @400K would keep them in games

If they know he's gonna sign, sure, but if you just traded away any pick at all for negotiating rights with a long-shot NHLer and then don't even sign him...

He's 100% getting signed, this trade doesn't happen if they arent confident in a contract working out. This is the kind of trade I've wanted the Leafs to make for so long. This is how contenders get good prospects even without a ton of 1sts. Think Marino in Pittsburgh or Siegenthaler in New Jersey. I am very happy with this trade for the Leafs and I would expect a contract soon

Not a bad risk, even if they don't know for sure if he's going to sign. You're swapping a 6th round pick for a recent 4th round pick who's closer to being able to contribute...plus it's a player your scouts have been able to obtain more information on vs whatever you might land late in the 6th round.

Basically trading a ? for a slightly lesser ? with more upside at the risk of ending up with zero ?'s

If they like the player...why risk letting him get to free agency if you can secure him for a 6th?

I’ve seen more than a few people say he is more than likely getting an AHL deal.

So why use the pick? Yes, IF he gets an ELC I guess I can see it.

But fukc me did we just waste a pick to sign a guy to an AHL deal

Cause why compete with other teams and lose out on someone u want

Who cares for a 6th

If he works its basically the equivalent to someone u would have drafted with that pick anyways

Will be interesting to see him with the Marlies
