weird how trading away two players who seem to be past their prime (with $5m AAV) frees up a bunch of Salary Cap.

They hawks might take Eller for a 2nd but no way are they taking Graves and that contract. Plus he is a Left handed D and the blackhawks have a deep pool of them.

And even weirder that the teams you try to trade those bad contracts to both easily decline. The Hawks aren't buyers. They aren't giving up a 2nd for two aging vets. Hawks probably wouldn't take those two if Pens added the 2nd on their side. And Vegas isn't paying a 1st and Brisson for Smith and Rakell. They don't have the cap space anyway.

Hawks aren't trading a 2nd for a bottom 6 center. They just extended Dickinson to fill that role.

No way Chicago even entertains this. They're not buyers. There's no immediate need for a player like Eller. Graves plays a position they are deep at (and they've got some good young talent at LD) and they have enough Gruden type guys in Rockford.

Remove Hamaliuk and the Blues would probably give a 4th for Cookie. At least I would. More importantly, where is Vegas suddenly finding all this cap space? They're already screwed when Eichel returns.
