Salary Cap Mode: Basic

Description

Anaheim, Arizona, Chicago, and Seattle are all exempt since they have no Captain to start with.
Did not pick anyone for EDM since theres no telling how long McDuck will be around till and there will be lots of players to go through EDM during his time there.
PIT would have Yager but he is not signed yet and by the time Crosby retires he should be in the NHL.
Quinn Hughes will probably have the same situation as McDavid so I won't do VAN.
MTL also has the same situation but I can see Roy being the Captain after Suzuki.
BOS makes sense for McAvoy.
BUF will probably go with Dahlin over Thompson.
Weegar just makes sense for the Flames.
The only one that makes sense to me with CAR is Aho.
Its a toss up between Makar and MacKinnon for COL.
Werenski is the most ideal next C for Columbus but they have lots of young guys who could be deserving of it instead.
Heiskanen for DAL with same reasoning as BUF but over Robertsson.
I picked Nate Danielsson for DET just because he seems he would make a good Captain even though that might not be next in line.
FLA could go 2 ways in Tkachuk or younger Barkov in Lundell.
Byfield makes the most sense for LA since he's like a young Kopitar.
Faber seems like the most likely candidate for MIN.
After Josi it will probably be Forsberg till he retires.
Jack Hughes just makes sense for Devils if Hischier is gone.
For NYI it's either Dobson or Horvat I think.
Fox makes sense for NYR.
OTT was hard but landed on Stutzle even though Sanderson could be a close 2nd choice.
PHI is hard but I went with Farabee.
SJ will have options after Couture but for now went with Eklund.
It just makes sense for STL to go with Thomas.
TB have options but their youngest who's in the NHL and locked up long term should be the next Captain in Sergachev.
Obviously for TOR it'll be Matthews.
Vegas gave a little bit of difficulty but decided on Theodore.
WSH had no idea who could replace OV but had to pick somebody so went with McMichael.
Finally WPG have a lot of options after Lowery but I decided on a young gun in Barlow. I don't know why him but it feels like he would make a good Captain.

Suzuki will likely gonna stay with the Habs during more than 20 years and maybe retiring in like 2039 or 2040. The dude just can't be injured (I mean, since his start in the NHL in 2019, he NEVER missed a single game (injuries, suspensions and also didn't have the COVID........).).

So, I expect to him that he will gonna keep the C until his retirement.

the one that seems ridiculous is stutzle.

for a couple of these it seems more like "they look like they'll be a really good player," rather than they display leadership qualities.

Makar > MacKinnon in terms of captain material. It’s well documented that one of Landeskog’s best characteristics is being able to get MacK to tone it down when he goes over the top.

Yeah it's true I went that route with quite a few teams but you also don't want 4th liners to be your C like in BUF. The C needs to either be on the top 2 lines as a forward or maybe the 3rd if your team just that good and on the top 2 D pairings if he's a D man.

I can see why you would think Matthews would be the obvious next choice for the C, but I think it's Rielly first, then Matthews. Rielly has been with the Leafs for longer, is under contract for longer, and a lot of people I know in real life think that Rielly should've been named captain instead of Tavares and/or that he should be next in line. I agree with one of the above comments that Wilson will be the next captain in Washington too

If Hertl and/or Ferraro are still here I think it would be one of them before Eklund.

Hard to tell Eklund's leadership skills so far as rookie, but he is a future cornerstone piece no doubt and one of the hardest workers on the team (at least on the ice), so I could definitely see it

Agreed but I think Ferraro will be out so that SJ can continue the rebuild and he could give the same return that Tanev does for the Flames or Seeler with the Flyers imo. Hertl is hard to tell if he'll stay but if he does 100% I see him as next Captain.

Not a fan of TOR but I see what your saying. I would've picked Marner but he might not be around long if they don't get him an extension when the time comes. TBH I don't know really for TOR cause I never saw Reilly as a Captain for them. Nylander is not captain material but maybe assistant captain and only other player I'd put in the running is Domi but that's a long shot at best.
