Why does Buffalo even consider that?
And I'd rather have Marino at 4.4 for another 3 years than ¼ of year of Hanifin (assuming he doesn't resign)

After the deadline, expiring UFAs don’t have a ton of value. Maybe mid round pick, at best, if an extension is attached.

Also…with Flames moving their blueline, Markstrom value probably going down. And with Devils possibly moving Toffoli instead of one if the kids, Holtz usage should improve his stock. So I doubt Holtz-for-Markstrom will be on the table in the summer.

Sabres aren’t trading Mitts
And that proposal doesn’t change their minds

Andersson could be of interest though

They should seriously consider trading Mitts if there's an upgrade available. I like Mitts. He's a high-quality top-9 forward who can easily adapt and produce anywhere in the top-six when called upon. However, this recent stretch of games where he's 1+2 in his last 11 games is concerning. Especially when everyone in Sabreland is ready to re-sign him to a long-term deal at $7M+ per.

3 or 5 years at ~$5.5M should be the contract.

If I were the Sabres, I would beat the Flames to Marino. Marino could be a first or second right defenseman the Sabres need.

He’s earned a Tage/Cozens deal though
And it really doesn’t matter what i would do,
it’s what Adams will do

And i don’t think Adams would trade Mitts unless it’s for the “perfect” return
My idea of the perfect trade would be something like Mitts + for Carlo & Ullmark
But i doubt Boston is gonna make a move like that
Not during the season
Maybe- MAYBE- if they crap out in the playoffs again

Guess we’ll just have to wait n see

I don't think Tage is a comparable for Mitts. Prior to signing his extension, Thompson had a 38-goal season.

Cozens isn't even a good comparable because he was in the midst of a 31-goal season when he signed his extension.

Mitts has 13 goals this seasons and will probably end up with around 15 goals, which is his career high.

Goals aren’t the only metric to define someone’s production
There’s a reason why assists count for as many points
Mitts is gonna get paid, it’s also a couple years after those deals were signed- & salaries do go up….

And a secondary assist counts the same as a primary assist and counts the same as a goal. It's a lot harder to score than it is to set up and definitely harder than setting up the set up.

I wouldn't re-sign him for more than $6M per and that's only because the market will dictate at least that. But...

his finish to the season will say a lot as to what his next contract will be worth.

Sure, I’m just saying you can’t ONLY go by goals
Mitts is also a lot better defensively than Tage, and (this year) Cozens as well (although i think Cozens was good last year & should bounce back)

If you’re at $6mil, I’m not gonna argue hard over the last million
Point is that Mitts is gonna get paid
He’s been our best forward this season & he’s earned his new contract
