He's keeping the 1st and two high level prospects in Minten and Cowan. That's all I care about this deadline. He's not overpaying for rentals and, besides, he doesn't have much to work with because Dubas left him with scraps. He deserves a grace period imo. We should judge him at next year's deadline.

lybushkin cant even play defense at an NHL level any more, he signed ryan reaves to term and john klingberg to 5 million bucks when he knew about nagging injuries, he lost that grace period a long time ago, especially with the mess he left in calgary in his wake.
Adding crappy players isnt a wait and see moment

Reaves has been better as of late since coming back from injury

Sure 200k more than I would have gave (would have did 1.1 to bury) but with how the 4th line's been recently not bothered. And Klings on LTIR now so its just added cap

Rielly did well with Boosh last time and seems to do well with these kinds of guys. Idk why but dont question what works

Lybushkin can hit and block. He shoots right. That's more than what the Leafs have currently. Beggars can't be choosers. You want Marner playing 2D alongside Rielly in the playoffs? Come on. He's making the best of a bad situation. This is on Dubas.

As for the Klingberg signing, and the Lafferty trade, those two are the only two blots on his record, but Klingberg was signed for 1 year so it hasn't hurt the Leafs. It was a bad gamble. The Reaves signing has worked out. He's playing a lot better. On the whole Treliving has done well. Adding a rugged defenceman for a 3rd when the entire league knew he was desperate is a good trade.

lybuskin is literally one of the worst defensive player sin the NHL, his hitting and blocking must be done in a really inefective way for his results to shake out that bad. And no, the reaves signing has not worked out, he has been unplayable for 95% of the games he's been in and 2 recent good ones dont change that.
Trading for a bad player because you are desperate is not a good thing at all, it's actually an incredibly stupid thing. Desperation is a reason to over pay for a good player who moves the needle, not to pull the trigger on a literal defensive black hole

even during reaves' best games he is a below average 4th liner, you dont give those guys term no matter how fun they are in the dressing room, especially when they are already 37, it's still an absolute stinker of a contract in every way shape or form, especially since gregor is right there showing you can actually get a decent 4th liner for less

In general as long as the 4th line has been performing and not being constantly scored on like we saw in the 1st Im good with it

Gregor's not great and dont do much besides be fast so im okay with him out. As Reaves showed tonight u can have some fun. Rip O'Brien lul

Just waiting for the Rempe fight SAT

it’s a late 3rd. we’ll live. rather do that then some of the other options on the market that gm’s are asking way too much for

Can you imagine everyone’s healthy come playoff time and all these underwhelming performers this year like Bettuzzi, Domi, Klingberg, Reaves, Gregor, Lyubushkin and struggling Leafs like Jarnkrok, Liljegren, Brodie, Kampf and Sammy start playing good and the Leafs go on an absolute tear in the playoffs and make Treliving look like a genius!?

Yeah, that’s giving Treliving too much credit and is probably being delusional and a bit too optimistic on my part 😉

when a player makes your team worse simply by being on it, free is too high a price. This is just a really dumb move by any standard, Lybuskin is literally one of the worst defensive players in the league

i think you’re just reading wayyyyyy too heavy into it. he wasn’t bad the last time he was here, and considering our guys are dropping like flies we need SOMETHING.

i’m not gonna cry over a late third that probably won’t be anything in the league anyway

He's an upgrade on Gio, Timmins and Lagesson.

he was actually pretty bad for the majority of his tenure with the leafs and he has just gotten worse since. He is very bad and not trading picks and just using a not good AHLer gets you up the same road.

we definitely had much worse players during his tenure here. i think you’re being a bit overdramatic

We'll see. Ideally he ends up on the 3rd pair. Treliving needs to find someone much better to play with Rielly.

not in a while, no, the leafs havnt had anyone with results this bad in a really long time. You should really just look into how bad he's been this year.

well, yeah, when you have the pleasure of playing on a team as terrible as the ducks, i wouldn’t expect him to look that great.

throw him in a bottom 4 role when everyone’s healthy and he does what he needs to do.

Ducks can have the 3rd, not like that player will ever make the league lmao

Not sure what all the fuss is about…they paid very little…his cap hit will be so low…it’s worth the price even if he is the 4th RD come playoff time but plays a few games now with all the injuries.

The fanbase likes to cry over spilled milk.

pay a 3rd for bush, or overpay a 1st+ for larsson or walker

he got crushed worse than every other ducks defender in softer deployment, he was literally their worst and least trusted defenceman.
