A classy TDL

Created by: NucksnOilers
Team: 2023-24 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2024
Published: Mar. 1, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team has 3 needs as of now

- Top-4 RD
-Middle 6 winger
-Tandem 1B goalie

For my sanity please ignore the 29 thousand. If it becomes a picky thing then I'd just add Janmark to one of these deals and bring up Kemp to be an extra
Trades
1.
EDM
  1. Carrier, Alexandre ($1,250,000 retained)
NSH
  1. Broberg, Philip
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Even if Nashville is still trying to contend (for whatever reason) I still think they move Carrier for the right price
2.
SJS
  1. Ceci, Cody
  2. Lavoie, Raphael
  3. 2026 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
The sharks d-core is probably the worst I've ever seen right now, they make a solid suitor to take on Ceci for the next year to help guide this tank. I also think Ceci would be pretty happy to upgrade from Edmonton winters to San Fran summers lmao.
3.
EDM
  1. Vatrano, Frank
Additional Details:
This feels like an overpay and well it kinda is but that's ok.
ANA
  1. Akey, Beau
  2. Foegele, Warren
  3. 2024 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
I don't think the Ducks and Oilers relationship is so intense that the Ducks are gonna refuse to work with them. This feels like a solid package for a guy whose value will never be higher than right now.

Ducks decline imo. We can reasonably get around a 1st for him next TDL. Akey is not a very enticing prospect. Not enough imo to consider moving him in division with another year left on his deal

I would say you're kind underselling Akey right now, a puck-moving d-man whose only struggle seems to be staying healthy. He also plays the right side which the ducks seem to need more than anything. This package is the equivalent of 2 1sts imo, I don't think Vatrano will ever reach those heights again especially if he's being moved as a rental

San Jose should jump on that deal. Would be curious to see how Kahkonen coukd do with better team in front of him

I bet you could even get 50% retention included on Kahkonen

A player taken 56th overall is barely a 2nd rounder. If he follows up in his D+1 year by playing a whopping 14 games, he does not advance a full round. This is more like a late 1st and a late 3rd at the very best

RD is a need, but moreso a #1RD caliber prospect (we have Luneau, Warren, and Helleson). I certainly prefer the first 2 to him currently, and possibly Helleson as well

As I said, Vatrano would likely fetch a return so eerily similar to this a year from now with retention that I just don’t see it as remotely enticing for a trade now, especially in division

Yeah the only thing is they only have one retention spot left and they'll probably use that on Duclair

23 games of UFA Warren Foegele is of virtually no use to the Ducks, because I don't think that he's a good candidate for re-signing, so this trade is basically our leading scorer for Akey and a pick that's likely to be number 23 or later. From Anaheim's perspective, that's not an overpay, it's an underpay.

Good point. Sharks should pay a 3rd team with their own pick to facilitate the trade if that's the case. Cost could only be a 5th or so. Figure that Ceci could net that or much better at next trade deadline with the added benefit of him helping stabilize the blueline a bit next year
