I wouldn’t give a RHD 6 years. I’d rather sign someone like Tanev to a 2-3 year deal and then Willander can take over once it’s done

Sabres pass. Mikheyev fills none of Buffalos needs, while Greenway does.

Greenway is doing his job- defensively responsible forward, using his long reach tying up lanes on the pk, and sticking up for smaller guys like benson (which is more physicality than I thought he would bring). That's a nice player for a soft team that is still learning how to play d, and coming off a season with a horrendous pk. What's mikheyev do for us? Not much.

Rental package for a non rental. Even if this is all that’s out there for the Blues, they’d be better off waiting til the offseason to drive a bidding war to teams that can make cap work a vit better then.

TBH, Greenway is way better than Mikheyev.
Easy pass Sabres.

Ya that's probably right. I think the Buchnevich deal is probably light and I'd consider adding Willander if that's what it took. In that case Roy would be nice.

I think you're right that Buchnevich's return should be more because he has an extra yr but I don't know that it's much more. Do we have examples where guys with a yr and a half to go before UFA status returned way more than rental prices?

Realistically Buchnevich should return a 1st, good prospect and maybe a project, give or take another pick

Probably. It's a tough one with Mkheyev because he is struggling so much right now. But the realty is those knee injuries take a yr of playing to get back to health. I think he's just struggling physically and will improve greatly next season. That said it's hard to not wanna get rid of him.

Not in recent memory for the caliber of player. But pretty much all it means is there’s no rush. There’s a value to having the player around for an additional year and being able to negotiate in the event that he’ll take a shorter term deal

I feel like Mikheyev should get another chance next season, readjust his off-season training, and if that doesn't work, then the Canucks management could trade him by next year's Trade Deadline.
I'm saying it as an assumption.

Thing is:
Sabres have absolutely no desire to get rid of Greenway.
He’s playing well for us & our coach & him go way back.
I’d be shocked if we moved him

And as far as Mikheyev goes….
I seriously doubt anyone takes a chance on him getting back to form with that Cap hit- maybe if u held half someone would give you a mid round pick for him though- MAYBE

Ya that's probably true. I guess the value is just in what are you willing to give up now to make it worth it rather than st louis just waiting. 2nd or b prospect maybe.

Yeah I mean also having a 1st line winger spot filled by a PPG all strengths player for anywhere from 2.9m to 5.8m for 2 playoff runs is nice. It’s like two rentals in one.
