LeBrun saying Ullmark

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2023-24 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 4, 2024
Published: Mar. 4, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
LeBrun (this afternoon)

“I was also told Monday that the Devils have looked at Ullmark as a possible option if they can’t swing a deal with Calgary. Perhaps Ullmark…. ends up in New Jersey”.
Trades
1.
BOS
  1. Holtz, Alexander
  2. Nosek, Tomas ($500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
He did not saying anything about what he wanted from Devils. I am basing this off an idea from a B’s fan. Fitzy was reportedly made available earlier on in Markstrom talks. Maybe other pieces? Maybe we broker Hanifin to BOS?
2.
NJD
BOS
Imagine if this occurs, we face Bruins in first round of playoffs as wild card….no more hugs.

Elliotte Friedman seems pretty adamant that NJD will push hard for Markstrom in the summer.

it would shock me if thats the cost for Ullmark. Boston is facing a squeeze, where you have to extend Swayman and then Bussi will require waivers. Theoretically you can carry three goalies but its kinda redundant at that point

Seems to me like it’d be the perfect type of trade for draft day.

Unlikely NJD anything more than a seller at the deadline 8 points out of the WC is just too big of a gap.

I haven’t seen anything related to cost or what would come from NJD side. Some had reported that Fitzy made Holtz available in Markstrom offer earlier in that process, and I have seen some Bruins post similar type trades. I’m really just throwing darts here.

I don't remember who, but someone said that the B's goaltending is no longer a strength, but a luxury they can't afford, and I couldn't agree more.

If Don Sweeney gets an offer including Holtz or Mercer, I think he has to take it. No telling how long the goalie trade market will stay hot.

Just to add, no reasons for the Devils to do it this season.

Can anyone truly believe that quote from LeBron? Would anyone in the Devils, Flames or Bruins organization tell LeBrun their trading strategy?
Why anyone believes 95% of what these reporters (story tellers) say/write is just crazy. How gullible can folks be.

It’s either at deadline or after draft. Very unlikely to be before July 1, when Markstrom due $2.5m bonus.

Devils feel like they can catch up Philly. They're not giving up on the season.

    You usually trust insiders.

I think he is just making a link here that the two sides have touched base. Some have speculated, but no one has reported any link between two teams (until now)

Insiders??? Story tellers. Remember the same LeBrun telling us last that Hughes and been offered a first and top prospect for Josh Anderson.

Non playoff teams are often sellers, so Markstrom makes some sense in a trade. But shouldn't believe someone told LeBrun to confirm a possible trade. Heck Markstrom kinda confirmed it himself.

GMs talk all the time about the possible availability of players. Markstrom confirmed the possible trade himself. LeBrun can report a possible trade, but there is no way he got "insider" from the Devils or Bruins personnel.

I like Bussi, but we have the cap room next year to carry him or DiPietro as the third goaltender fairly easily. Boston won’t take scraps for him if that’s the inclination. Keeping him basically keeps the foundation in place that’s been successful.

“Yes, the Devils desperately need a goalie, and as discussed above they’re focused on a different Swede as their top target. However, I was also told Monday that the Devils have looked at Ullmark as a possible option if they can’t swing a deal with Calgary. So stay tuned there. Perhaps Ullmark, who’s signed through next season at a $5 million AAV, ends up in New Jersey if Calgary won’t move Markstrom.“

No mention of discussions, but it does make sense if it comes down to it

No, it was the opening line in this post, where LeBrun "was told". There is no way LeBrun was told by the Devils or Bruins or Flames about their trade plans. Now LeBrun can speculate as a fan, but it's just BS he was "told"

Yes, it makes sense. But LeBrun is not telling the truth when he was "told" by anyone in the Devils or Bruins organization about a possible trade.
He can speculate like any fan does, but he's trying to tell us, that teams are giving him confidential information.

Could be agents, or other players, or the GMs themselves. I think LeBrun has enough credibility to assume it’s not just a ‘guy on the street’. But everyone can trust who they want to trust.

I think suggesting jersey have looked at it likely means it’s not coming from some guy off the street.

Sweeney doesn’t talk to anyone and Boston’s stuff generally comes out of left field

    Ullmark to Jersey makes sense

Does Boston prefer a young player with upside (Holtz) or a veteran who could really shore up their top 6 scoring (Toffoli)? I’d be all in on Holtz in that equation.

The pick would have been easier, but my assumption is the playoff projection would likely make it less viable and I believe Sweeney is trying to shore up the team
