Rangers.

Why give up 3 good, young assets for a rental?

as much as it pains to say, and would pain me to see Jake in a rags sweater, this is actually an interesting deal.

I also think Eller to NYR on it's own would be a great fit.

Those were my thoughts. This would be a great return for Pits. And New York get Eller for 2 years (would help ease the loss of Chytl down the middle) and they get a star winger. Maybe New York tries to extend Guentzel also. I would need to look to see if it possible for them to do it.

Rangers are a great team. This helps them ALOT to be cup contenders.

rangers lose on this deal, feel like the first and a prospect would be the route they would probably want to go, dont think you want to lose Kakko at this point for a rental. This is a year where it would make sense for the rangers to be aggressive at the deadline.

How are the Rangers fitting Guentzel in their Cap next season?

He's not taking a paycut in UFA.

I said "I would need to look to see if it possible for them to do it."

I assume he gets 9.5m x 7 years or 10m x 7 years as a ufa.

You'll just hand out Lowball salaries to "prove" it can work

Like you do on Leafs CFACGMs.

No I just made it and had to trade Trouba to make it work. So it's not overly probable. I am quite bad at UFA signing valuations though and I tend to tilt to not giving guys enough. I can admit that. (not always but often). I don't know what AGM's you accusing me of super lowballing though?

I find it unlikely this would be the best offer especially for an in division rival.

Kakko is a 3rd liner at best. Not a good asset at all.
Othmann is a B prospect.
2024 is a weak draft and Friedman said just yesterday that most GMs aren't placing much value on a late 1st in this draft unlike last year's draft.

I think you had Tanev making 3 mil if he signed with Toronto this summer?

Or was it 3.5?

This was before he was traded to Dallas of course.

He's currently making 4.5 mil.

GM's always say that and there's future hall of famers drafted.

Draft is a crapshoot.

But you seem to put no value on draft picks at all after reading a few of your posts.

No Gms universally said 2023 was a strong draft. PIT got Yager who would go around 10 most drafts. Same thing about Perreault for NYR. Celebrini would be potentially 5th in 2023 as opposed to #1 in 2024.

Yes I always signed Tanev for 3.5m x 2 years - I suggested he would probably get more BUT that was the most that I would pay for him. If he wouldn't sign that, I would look elsewhere.

Tanev is 34, so his age really played into the lower AAV. But I can definitely see a team doing a 4m x 3 year type of contract. Maybe more. We will see what he gets.

I know Tanev is old but there's a big demand for good RD.

He might take a bit of a haircut but he won't be bald.

No state tax Dallas might be a good place for him.

Easy the pens. That might get you Guentzel without retention, but the pens will retain to get the most back. Now let’s add the fact that you gotta add for the retention, add even more for Eller, and add even more cause you’re a divisional rival.

All of that was included in this deal. You will more than likely be extremely disappointed if you expect more than this. Hey... it could happen but I doubt it.

No you didn’t. For Guentzel 50% retained the pens are looking for a 1st, a top prospect that close to nhl ready, and a good young nhl player that the pens hope could make better with more of a role. You got 2/3 of that but othmann is a b prospect. So you need to add there, add for Eller who is worth a 3rd minimum, probably gets a 2nd. Then add cause you’re a divisional rival. Carolina, Vegas, and Vancouver easily beat this deal

Othmann is for a sure the type of prospect that they are looking for. He was 16th overall in 2021 and has been developing well. Also I assume that Kakko is worth more than the average good young nhl player. So between getting Othmann and Kakko, this is a greal deal for Pits. Maybe at a 3rd for Eller but I assume you are undervaluing Othmann and Kakko quite a bit.

Looking for and willing to take are 2 different things. Would the pens take Othmann in the deal? Sure. They’d prefer quality of quantity though. I’m not undervaluing either guy. If anything I may be overvaluing Kakko at this point. He’s a 3rd liner that the pens would hope they can make a top 6 since they’d have the room for him after a Guentzel deal.
