I doubt you have the assets to get Parayko w/out retention....if you want retention for 7 years the price basically doubles.

Admitting the Leafs would be better this year. But is Parayko going to be of value for six full years? Trading away the Leafs only centre prospect doesn't seem wise.

St. Louis retaining $7.5 million over the next 6 seasons is a nice touch.

Do you think that Toronto would trade Morgan Rielly and retain $1.25 million per?

1. thats not enough for parayko alone
2. STL wont retain for 6 years.
3. if you want us to retain for 6 years, itll will cost you dearly.
4. parayko isnt available unless you WAY WAY overpay

please stop.

I don't agree.

a) Brodie has little value to them as an expiring UFA...he's clearly tossed in there for cap ballast...plus it's unlikely he'd waive to go to St. Louis
b) Robertson doesn't have much value, himself. 3rd rounder at best I'd say
c) There's too much term left to expect salary retention without having to pay a pretty high premium for it

For St. Louis to bit on a Parayko trade, I think there would need to be 0 retention, and they'd have to basically commit to a re-build (which there's no signs that they're there yet).

If they do go full rebuild mode....then a 1st, prospect (minten) and young roster player (robertson?) isn't a bad starting point as that is the standard asking price for most upper-tier players on expiring deals at the deadline...but it's far from a slam-dunk/easy accept from St. Louis.

Rielly is a very good comparable...if the leafs missed the playoffs what would you want to receive for him in a trade? Would you retain for so many years? Would you be willing to even consider any trade for him if the team wasn't blowing things up? I wouldn't.

1. brodie has no real value, hes an expiring UFA and honestly not great.
2. Minten is a good piece dont get me wrong, but we have a deep F prospect pool, a D prospect is more attractice
3. Robertson isnt the player the leafs think he is, hes a 3rd line "scoring" winger and undersized. We have walker as our fiesty lil guy and krug as the gnome we dont really want, no interest in robertson

the picks are fine. but minten plus picks doesnt get you buch most likely
