That trade for BUF makes a ton of sense pre-byram.

I think at this point the next big move they make has to be at forward.

Even post Byram I can see a fit, would be nice to have 1 RD in the top 4.

It’s a “maybe” imo
Andersson would still be a great fit,
but idk that we’d trade away a top10 pick

It's too much money to commit. Byram's gunna need a new contract in a year. Assuming this works out, its going to be hefty raise. The team is generating the 3rd or 4th worst amount of quality scoring chances per 60 minutes at 5v5 right now. They need help offensively.

Fair enough, with Buffalo's recent play though they might move out of the top 10, picks 8-16 is a complete crap shoot right now.

Sure. If the pick moves into the teens then I’d say it’s much more likely (obviously)

Andersson isn't for sale and that's not enough for Markstrom either.

With the cap finally going up again should be able to fit him in. I see your point though.

Lol, we will say Buffalo's pick is #12 then.

Calgary needs a prospect with top 6 center potential a lot more than a defense prospect. Caydem Lindstrom and Carter Yakemchuk will be gone before Calgary picks so that leaves Tij Iginla who Calgary has other reasons to target besides being a center. I'd pass on Berkeley Catton if he's available too we have plenty of smaller forwards already and need more with better size than Catton.

He should be. I think being able to get a top 10 pick for Markstrom is enough, and I added holtz.

Fact it's a retool not a rebuild, good younger players with term aren't for sale. Andersson might be available a year from now depending on what happens between now and then but he's not for sale now.

I think most Sabres fans would say “yes” pretty quickly
Idk about our GM though

Personally, I’d do the deal, as I’d still like a top4 RD
But our GM might also think Byram is “enough”

Conroy can call it what he wants, but as soon as markstrom asks for a trade its a rebuild.

I mean, it’s not an unreasonable thought
We have 3 guys under the age of 25 who were picked in the top5 in their draft years

U guys both obviously know CGY much much better than me
But from the outside looking in, i think you’re both right

Conroy probably tries to “retool” next year,
but if next year goes bad, that could turn into a “rebuild” really quickly

If markstrom hasn't had the year he's having we're probably in the celebrini conversation. If he's truly not happy like the rumors suggest and we're forced to move him, things aren't looking good for next season.

It's interesting, lindstrom is the one player I would keep the pick to draft (I don't think we finish low enough to have a look at celebrini). I would wait til the draft lottery just to make sure.

Yeah I'm assuming none of these teams win the lottery. Think you'd have to be top 5 for Lindstrom.

Lindstrom probably goes in the top 3. Even if he slips a bit I can't see him going any later than 5th or 6th OA. To pick that high Buffalo would have to either completely fall off a cliff starting now or win the lottery. Yakemchuk probably goes somewhere around 9th OA which is exactly where the Sabres would be picking if the draft was based on today's standings. Iginla is harder to predict he's been rising in the rankings all year lately he's been in the 11-16 range on all the trade boards I check.
