Description
I know a lot of fans were upset that guys like Smith/Eller/Rakell weren't moved at the deadline but personally I don't think there was any market for guys with term at the deadline.

Those with term that moved were either very good young players (Byram) or players that had a hefty retention by their club which the penguins were going to do for multiple years (Kuz, Hertl, Allen) and Peeke was no retention. After that, nothing. So it clearly was evident that moving anyone with term without retaining wasn't a possibility.

With that said, I think that Dubas will look to move Smith and Eller in the summer and maybe guys like Rakell or Nieto.

I'm not really sure who would be suiters but given that each will have a year left I don't think it would be too difficult to find buyers, specially given that Smith had some interest at the deadline.

Dubas also said he wants to use assets to try and get younger, so I'm going to show some trades below of some trades where I think he could potentially target a younger player because of cap issues.

I left 2 and 3c open as they're the main areas that I think the team will look to fill. RW would be another are if someone like Rakell is dealt.

They'll also look at adding to the defense, I know a lot of people want graves moved and maybe it's something they try but i'm going to assume he stays.
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Lundell, Anton [RFA Rights]
FLA
FLA is 100% going for it all this year, and while they'll have $22M in cap this summer, I would have to imagine that nearly 65-75% of that is going to go to Reinhart and Montour, I just can't see them both signing for less than $14M combined.

Of course the can look to move someone, but it will leave them in a tight spot cap wise so i wonder if Lundell is someone that Dubas targets.
    2.
    PIT
    1. Drury, Jack [RFA Rights]
    CAR
CAR will have a lot of cap in the summer, about $33M, but, they have a lot of people to resign. I would imagine that they're going to try and resign Guentzel in the summer and while nothing is in place and his camp has said they're waiting for summer, CAR will definitely be favorites. If they sign Jake that leaves Necas, Jarvis, Skjei, Teuvo, Pesce, Chatfield, and Drury (leaving out depth guys like martinook, Nosen, etc).

Obviously they won't resign all of those guys, but I think if they do resign Guentzel it will be difficult to sign all of those guys (or their replacements).

I wonder if Drury would be someone that Dubas looks at to try and acquire and even maybe something that Waddle and Dubas discussed in the Jake trade to revisit in the summer. Dubas could understand that CAR is going for it now and Drury would've been unlikely in season, but maybe possible in the summer.
      3.
      PIT
      1. Pinto, Shane [RFA Rights]
      OTT
Pinto is most intriguing to me and would cost the most but the Sens have very little cap space as things sit for next season and are pretty deep at Center.

I wonder if this would be someone that Dubas looks to put a package together for.

"Sens have very little cap space..."

        *Checks notes*

12 million is very little apparently.

Norris is out long term and 1 of Chabot or Chychrun will be gone at either the draft or otherwise. Koripsalo bought out. Sens will make it a priority over any other RFA to re-sign Pinto.

Is norris out next year too? Genuinely don't know.

Even if you move one of those defenders their cap relief is going back to replace them in someway. Also think it will be difficult to move Chabot at that AAV.

Agreed. But I doubt Ottawa'd give up a young centre when they can easily re-sign him to a long or short term extension.

When it comes to Norris: an other right shoulder injury and he's currently seeking alternatives to surgery. That being said, it's still going to be a long process and recovery. More than likely, we won't see him until mid to late next season. It may be LTIRetired...

Sens aren't actually particularly strapped for cap space next season. almost inevitably, any move they would make would involve money out and money in, and even if they were to stand pat, they've got enough to pretty comfortably sign Pinto. the chances of him being a cap casualty for the Sens are negligable at best

I really like this idea and this this is a route Dubas goes to get a couple players. Teams that are cap strapped, is a solid way to do it. Lundell is a good target and makes sense.
