I see no reason Leafs would trade an asset for a player when they can just sign a comparable (or better) player in FA.

I like Rutta as a Lyubushkin replacement actually - big, strong, defense-first RHD. And if you're a Leafs fan that wants a David Savard, I think Rutta can do 90% of what Savard does at a lower cap hit and at a much lower acquisition cost.

I’m a Leafs fan that didn’t want Savard and I see no reason to trade for Rutta; just resign Lybushkin (who’s been good since return) or another FA dman and keep the pick
