Gophers men's coach recently compared Chesley to Faber, saying his game is similar (he coached Faber as well). So Chesley has upside for sure. Caps would just be getting a young guy that can both help them win now and grow in the future.

Sabres Decline

Upl and Levi will be fine, not adding a 33 yr old goalie set to make over 5m for several years. Plus the Sabres need right shot d prospects.

Agreed, even if they wanted a Vet Backup there will be cheaper options. Plus Strbak has Top 4 written all over him. Hopefully the Sabres let him stay in School for 1 more year if that's what he wants. With the way Novikov and Johnson have progressed they can give him another year to Develop even though there LD they both can play RD pretty good. Novikov hasn't done it here but he did in the KHL.

Kraken don't really need Dowd, so they decline, the Wild are not trading Faber, and that's too much for Aube-Kubel and not near enough for Reinhart.

Sabres don't need goalies or picks and need RD prospects. I don't understand the logic at all. Let alone Kuemper isn't good

So basically the Wild are trading their boat for a box that might contain a boat...?

A prospect that could very well be the next Faber, a veteran defensemen, and a second rounder. Not JUST Chesley.
Caps need to win now, not so much for the Wild. We can't wait for D men to get to the NHL. Ovi only has 2 more years left on his deal. Maybe 1 more (I think he signs a 1 year deal) after that. Faber would fit the need for a young defensemen who can help win now, but also grow into the future.

You acting like y'all just didn't get Bo Byram. Your oldest defensemen is 28...no D prospect is gonna be playing for the Sabres for a WHILE.

Are you daft?

Minnesota DOES NOT CARE if Ovi plays one more year, or two, or four, or if he's the next Jagr.

Minnesota is NOT trading a 21 year old #1D. A kid that has turned the Calder race from a forgone conclusion to a legitimate debate. Against Bedard of all f'ing people, and who would be the clear-cut winner if Bedard wasn't in it as well.

They're not moving a Legitimate 1D at age 21 for a maybe. Faber will only be TWENTY-THREE by the time Minnesota's buyouts end and the team will be ready for true contention for the cup in 25-26.

You want a young stud 1D? Well too bad. He's not available. In fact. He's untouchable.

Well, not unless we're getting McDavid back anyway.

Guerin, DOES NOT CONSIDER THIS.

Furthermore, you're also completely missing the point of what Motzko was saying. His ONLY point was that Chesley plays a similar style of defensive game as Faber. HE WAS NOT IMPLYING THAT CHESLEY HAD THE SAME UPSIDE.

There is a MASSIVE difference between playing hockey in a similar manner, how they play/think the game, and having the same level of potential. Don't confuse his words for something he wasn't saying.

Byram is a LHD.

Sabers need RHD prospect's. If for no other reason than they're already playing 5 LHD in their top 6 pairings.

That's not sustainable.

So a box that might contain a boat. No thanks, the Wild have their boat and will keep him. Far more important to the Wild is their need to convince Kaprizov to extend long-term after next season and having a stud #1 RHD helps with that.
