Guhle still has 1 year on its entry level contract as Mercer is RFA at the end of this year.

I would probably argue that New Jersey is giving more than a 5th, Mercer is playing on your 3rd line with potential of second line as Guhle is already playing 1st pair minutes.

Wouldn't mind Holtz instead of Mercer but here again would need extra compensation not much tho

Mercer plays up and down the line up all year he's very much a top 6 forward and one of the better even strength goal scorers in the league what has guhle done with top pair minutes besides play them?

Guhle makes no sense for New Jersey. The youth of their D corps got absolutely exposed this year, and Guhle does not solve that problem.

It also makes no sense for New Jersey to trade Mercer. He's one of two players on their team that's half decent in front of the net... three if you count Hischier, but Hischier is utility.

What Guhle brings is not necessarily points but he's already playing top pair minutes against the best players on the other team and holding it's own even at his age.

As for Mercer definitely a good even strength player, PP bumper player however with all the heavy contract upfront the devil's have I don't see how they can afford a 5x6M type of contract.

Don't think this trade is a reach

Hamilton - Guhle would be a good pairing

And Newhook - Dach - Mercer would be a good second line for the Habs
