No matter how many times you repost this, OTT fans will consistently say no.

JBD>Ludvig
Korpi is a cheap buy-out and won't be worth the cost to dump him
Jarry isn't worth a 1st
Kleven is one of our better D prospects
OTT isn't trading away a 1st for a marginal upgrade in net

There might be something there for a 50% retained Smith, but not involving any of the pieces you've mentioned here.

You can't sell this trade to Detroit fans.

You see it's ok to re-sign a 35 year old (36 in November) Patrick Kane for 2 or 3 more years.

But taking on the 32 year old (in May) Rust contract for 4 more years would run their franchise into the ground.

Nice of you to also take the full contract of Holl so Yzerman doesn't have to buy him out. And you're even retaining on Methuselah Rust.

But I'm sorry.

Detroit just can't take that Rust contract.

No player over 30 can play good hockey.

A successful NHL team can only have all 23 players 28 years old or under.

Those two aren't equivalent players.

Kane is still an elite offensive producer. Rust is a pretty good two way forward that benefits from playing with Crosby.

It's the extra two years of term that are bothersome for me on the Rust deal.

Age aside, will his production be equivalent in Detroit? If so, can he produce like that for the next 4 seasons?

Kane, at least on a two year deal, is less risk involved. Not to mention we don't have to give up a bunch of assets to keep him.

Oh Rust is only good because he plays with Crosby?

Got it.

It keeps getting better folks.
