Getting younger while pushing for playoffs

Created by: M_Swann
Team: 2024-25 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 22, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
TOR trade: Leafs get the better and cheaper players right now. Caps take a gamble on Liljegren's potential while taking on Kampf's contract.

OTT trade: Stole the idea from @csick – depends on Norris' health, but Caps still may have to add here.

DeBrusk: He might take a shorter deal to prove that he's worth a big payday in '25. Otherwise, they'll bring up Leonard.

What in there gets you Josh Norris? Ottawa just looking to move salary?

Jensen certainly isn't that special now. Leafs keep Liljegren at a cheaper price. Leafs would save a few $$$$ trading Kampf. But especially lately, his play has been good, even playing above his contract.

Not to speak for Sens fans but as I understand from those who've made similar proposals, part of it certainly would be to move salary, as well as concerns over the consistent injury history of Norris.

In this trade though, they are essentially getting a goalie twice as expensive that also hasn't been good. It really blunts OTT getting much of a cap relief. Norris isn't bad, he's just been hurt. Seems like a silly move for OTT to move him out just for a mid-30s goalie on the downswing unlikely to reclaim his form, compared to a young center.

OTT aint selling norris for pennies on the dollar, if he is hurt hes on LTIR and dont need to trade him for cap space, if hes fine he will play and if they trade him it will be a full value of a 2C in their prime

Dude has had multiple (lengthy & serious) injuries to the same shoulder as far as I can tell. And if you saw how he hurt it this last time - leading to season ending surgery - safe to say his future is far from certain. I don’t see how / why SENs could / would move him; either he’s on LTIR or you trade him for pennies on the dollar or he makes remarkable recovery
