#14 (NJD) - Ryder Ritchie (RW)
#32 (CAR) - EJ Emery (RD)

Playful thinking here if Carolina goes all the way to win the Stanley Cup. If Dubas does go full rebuild mode, I can see Pettersson and Jarry being next, and why not package them together? Pettersson signs an extension with New Jersey.

Drouin or maybe Duclair, signs to play with Crosby for one year, and is possibly used as an asset at the 2025 Trade Deadline.

Ponomarev, Poulin, Blomqvist, Ludvig, and St. Ivany start a youth movement. Bring up Yager if he is ready.

With Malkin's regression and Crosby's slow regression, this could be another bottom 12 team. Performance from the young guys could make it a little better.

I think NJD passes on that.

2024 1st is looking quite high. probably has the value of 2 late 1sts

late 1st for Jarry
late 1st+Bahl for pettersson

Casey and Lenni would not be added unless the pick was taken out

You guys need a 2025 first more than you need a third 2024 first, and New Jersey is unlikely to want to give up a pick in the 8 - 13 range this June for that package in any event once they're including Bahl and Casey.

Specific circumstances would have to occur for Los Angeles to be interested in Reilly Smith. For one thing, re-signing Matt Roy is a much bigger priority than adding a third-line forward to play with Pierre-Luc DuBois, and for another, the Kings are much more likely to want to spend money replacing both of their free-agent goalies. And Blake Lizotte is probably more valuable to them than Smith, anyway.

Pettersson alone would probably be a mid first rounder + a prospect or a mid round pick. Dubas probably looks for a B tier prospect.

I could see Dubas taking the prospects over the pick.

At the draft for NJD it should be the 2024 1st (if it is 9-12). Division rival, entire season with him, and potential to negotiate an extension. Otherwise they might as well keep him and flip at the TDL for a late 1st+ package.

Respectfully, it seems like a worse idea to give up the 25 1st versus the 24 1st. Next years draft is supposed to be deeper.

This is just my scenario, but I still think Dubas just "retools" and tries to get Crosby into the playoffs next season. In that case, take the top 10 pick that is guaranteed (2024).

I didn't make Pettersson extending a condition. Was just noting that he signs long term with NJD.

On the contrary prices on offseason rentals are actually usually lower. There's more risk. Teams buying at the deadline know exactly where they are, and the 1sts traded are usually guaranteed late 1sts.

And money. It costs pittsburgh 3.5 mill in real money trading him at the deadline vs trading him now.

Depends on the context of the teams involved but PIT doesn't appear to be holding their 1st this 2025 season so keeping Pettersson adds value to what little chance they might have at being competitive and thus makes ownership more money during the season. Off the top of my head I can think of several that got top value as "rentals" like Staal, Lucic, and Toffoli recently definitely got more from NJD in the offseason as a rental than he got back at the deadline.

Well, the draft is before July 1st, so the Devils couldn't guarantee an extension, so they couldn't deal 2024 pick in that move.
