value is fine for CGY, little low but still possible. I think its more likely they want young players than picks (Siegenthaler, Bahl, Holtz etc...) but who knows.

Yeah pass on giving up all that for markstrom.

Wouldn't do that even with 50% retention

Calgary wouldn't get that even if they retained 50%.

NJD 1st is far top high to be traded for a 35 year old goalie

Honestly I wouldn’t do it myself, not super high on giving up assets like that on goalies in general, and also scared off by Markstrom’s age/inconsistency. That said, I think Fitz is going to feel pressure to add a goalie and Markstrom seems like the most likely fit.

Fitzgerald didn't fold on the high goalie prices to try and salvage the season.

He understands managing value. If he were gonna offer a behemoth package like this a goalie would have already been acquired.

“Realistic” as Henrique takes over a 2 million dollar pay cut while the cap goes up 4 million

Waaaaay too much for Markstrom.

The rumored trade during season was Holtz for Markstrom with some retention. Unlikely price would be this much in off-season, especially since he blocked a trade to LAK, but agreed to trade to NJD.

I mean there tends to be a difference in the AAV of contracts signed by players in their age 27 season and their age 34 season…

I hope we don’t give up much as I’m not a big Markstrom guy but I feel Fitz is gonna feel pressure. I’d rather not give up Holtz, I’d like to see him under a different coach before we give up on him. Think Marky will get a 1st, anything beyond that will probably depend on the market and how many teams are bidding for him.

If a trade goes down, it’s likely to be after July 1st, when Markstrom gets a big bonus. So any picks are likely 2025 and later.

Also, if Saros is in the running, he can extend starting July 1st too, so I doubt Nashville moves him a few days before that window opens.

If Fitz gets pressure to move the 2024 1st before the draft, it would have to be much more enticing (like Markstrom plus VAN 1st for #8-12 pick…or maybe later pick attached if retention included). Otherwise, he will wait until summer.

Just my guess.

That would be acceptable now considering NJ's 1st is going to be higher than it would have been if they'd traded the pick to get Markstrom before the deadline.

Two picks around 10th OA (Calgary's own + NJ's) would be nice, one of them could be packaged up with Vancouver's late 1st to move up and select Carter Yakemchuk or with a little luck maybe even Caydem Lindstrom while the other should be right about where Tij Iginla goes.

How do you feel about

Markstrom ($2m retained)
2024 VAN 1st (~#28-32)

For

Schmid
2024 NJD 1st (~#10-14)
2024 NJD 3rd

This works. With all the talk that Ullmark could go for a 2nd and a 3rd, why not go down that road?
Yes he's gotta get reupped sooner but he's 5 yrs younger. I still believe Marky is a stop gap for Daws (Schmid before news he may want out)
This is a good compromise, but is Cgy a willing partner?
