Question for Calgary Fans

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2024-25 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 23, 2024
Published: Mar. 23, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Flames Fans: Would you be interested in one season of a top-4 LhD in order to give Grushnikov, Kuznetsov, Poirier and Solovyov an additional year to develop in the AHL?

(This assumes, of course, that Calgary isn't on Pettersson's no-trade list, or that he waives it.)

Still plenty of money to sign a RhD to fill that #2 hole.

I assume Vladar will be traded and Hanley and Hunt traded or waived, hence their presence on the LTIR list.

Separately, I'd love some education on the lineup, too.

Pittsburgh fans: If you think that the return for Pettersson is inadequate, you can assume that Calgary would add a good prospect.

Not at the cost of 2 2nds. I would rather just bring back Kylington who wants to re-sign, and/or take on someone's cap dump with an asset attached

We’d just re-sign Kylington and/or a Free Agent and save the assets

Ryan Graves would be of interest though and has term at least

Yeah I can’t see why Calgary would really need 1 year of a guy like Pettersson when it will cost them. They’d be better off just signing a FA or taking on a player like Graves with a pick attached or something.

If they are trading their top shutdown D then they want young players. Not a few 2nds

LOL come on. They're not trading "their top shutdown D," they're trading a lame duck who will probably walk in 2025 if he's not traded at the deadline.

Penguins have two firsts and three seconds in the next three drafts and only three prospects likely to make an impact at the NHL level, so I think that they're just as disposed to trade for high picks as players. (It would be different if the picks were third-rounders or lower.)

He certainly is their top shutdown dman? one they have talked about resigning? And the stats show he's a top shutdown dman in the league not just for the pens. This is literally common knowledge across the various hockey sites lol. Furthermore Dubas has made it clear repeatedly they aren't really interested in futures as much as young talent. Didn't you pay attention to the guentzel trade?
Anyways calgary is farther from competing again than the pens are so I don't even see why they would give up ANY assets for him

Yes, I personally like Ryan Graves and think he'd be the better fit in Calgary and matches our style the most, but his Cap Hit and the fact he has term is really what seals the deal

Pettersson could just leave after 1 season and/or may want a bigger Cap Hit, so yeah, I'm pro Ryan Graves if given the choice between the two. Not sure I'd pay TWO 2nds though, I'd try to see if PIT wants the Cap Space back and see if we could pick him up for much less

I wouldn't expect anyone to pay 2 2nds for Ryan Graves. I don't even particularly care about the price. You can have him.
