Nobody is gonna trade a young stud center for a goalie. Goalies just don't have that value ever.

Young goalies like Swayman are never traded and is Byfield a center?

We can use our brains and figure out it isn't going to be swayman.

The last time a goalie with this much value was traded it was Cory Schneider, and he got the 8th overall pick I think. Swayman obviously has way more value than that.

My mistake. Goalies are known to not hold as much value as literally any other position.

Either way. There has been maybe one goalie with Swayman’s pedigree ever traded at his age for whatever reason.

I don’t think either team does this deal

And I bet new jersey would undo that trade if they could. Just another reason why goalies don't have value.

If Boston can sign ullmark long term there's absolutely no reason why they shouldn't jump on this deal.

Or it shows how rare it is that a goalie like Swayman comes on the market.

sure there is. they're trading the best player in the trade....and moving their top prospect and a first round pick.

Bo Hovart was the only player in round 1 past pick 7 that was better than Schneider. It just so happens that Vancouver selected him

It doesn’t matter. Neither side does this deal. Byfield is not a center and Swayman fits the timeline of Pasta/McAvoy better than Ullmark.

Not criticizing Byfield. Neither team should want to make the trade

I find it hard to believe that 2 of the best goalies in the league just so happen to be on the same team. So I'd disagree that swayman is the best player in the trade.

So disregard stats and play? Statistically both are among the league leaders in GSaX per 60 over the last two years.

Just because other teams have lacking goalie evaluation doesn’t mean anything. Boston has a good track record of identifying goalies and improving them because of the presence of Bob Essensa and Mike Dunham. They have two good goalies at the AHL level and arguably the top prospect in the WHL.

It doesn’t matter. This deal isn’t happening. I’m just hoping Boston doesn’t trade Ullmark for the inflated PLD contract even if LA throws in a 2024 first. Just sign Lindholm outright and sell Ullmark to the highest bidder. If you don’t get a deal that’s acceptable, keep him and let him leave in free agency because the goalie rotation appears to work well for them

i mean, swayman has kind of been elite since stepping on NHL ice. throw out the stats and if you watch the guy it's pretty clear. I don't think there's anyone who would watch Byfield play and say, "that's an elite center." I think it's a question if he's even a center. the potential is certainly there, but generally speaking teams aren't trading the proven, top of the market player along with a first and top prospect for a guy with potential.
