Dear Leafs Fans

Team: 2024-25 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 7, 2024
Published: Apr. 7, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
WSH
  1. Kämpf, David
  2. Liljegren, Timothy [RFA Rights]
  3. Robertson, Nicholas [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
I've seen these three players sent to the Caps a lot. Like A LOT.

Let me start off with saying Kampf is a no go. Even if it's just to make money work, that contract is awful, and the Caps have Dowd, Sgarbossa, and Malenstyn all as really good 4C options. Kampf doesn't crack next years opening roster. Also I don't know where y'all get the idea that you'll get picks for Kampf. Nobody is paying for that contract.
I'd love Robertson on the Caps. I'd give a 25 2nd for him, nothing more. The Caps have Miroshnichenko, McMichael, Lapierre, Malenstyn, and Protas in full time slots already with guys like Leonard, Cristall, Suzdalev, Dube, and Sutter pushing in the next couple years. So giving up premium assets for a young winger isn't an absolute priority.
Same with Liljegren, I'd give up a second next year. I really like him as well, but we have 3 RD locked up for 2 more years, with Iorio on the brink of an NHL spot and Chesley pushing in the next few years. RD is probably the least of the Caps worries.

Also I've seen Jensen half retained going back to Toronto. I'd do that straight up for Liljegren, that's about it. Jensen on his own is worth probably a 3rd, with half retention for two years, it'll be closer to a second, maybe a little more.

Sandin and Fehervary aren't moving so you can forget that.

You may have Ethan Bear for free.

Hope this helps!

Good explanation and I agree with some of your points:
1/ Kampf is not going anywhere; he has a lot of value for Leafs not so much other teams. I agree trade is unreasonable.
2/ Lil & Robertson might be on the block because some fans think they are not Tre style players; pure speculation at this point but time will tell 🤷🏻. Lili > Jensen now, not even considering Jensen’s contract, so on that one - we disagree

Allow me to explain something you may not (although you should be , tbf) be aware of…Leafs Nation is the biggest fanbase in the league, by a wide margin.
Even within our own ranks, there is massive disagreement so just unreasonable to speak to Leafs Nation as an entity. More like a loosely associated group of leaderless people who all think they know the best path forward 😉

I think Leafs trading for TvR is more commonly done than the Leafs dumping Kampf or Liljgren.

Though the fun part of Lily going to the Caps is re-uniting with his long time Leaf and Marlie line mate, Sandin.

Liljegren and Robertson aren't Treliving players, this year he is learning a lot about the team. Liljegren and Robertson are way too small for Treliving

Robertson I agree with... But Lilly has excelled under Treliving, I feel more comfortable with him on the ice over a guy like McCabe and Treliving does as well (that's not supposed to be a knock on McCabe, but a compliment towards Lilly) considering he didn't trade him this TDL
