Description
Please don't just **** on the deals and tell me it will never happen ... tell me what you think needs done differently to make it happen.

Signing Hudler ... He had a crap season last year, after a virus knocked him out for several weeks ... at 34 this might his last go. He's put up great numbers in the past, has won a cup and played a good bit of playoff hockey (w/ DET). He might provide depth scoring playing either side, and word is he's an amazing locker room guy. So I give him a chance and let the kids beat him out while learning from his experience. He could be our Hainsy, Cullen, Guerin that the guys want to help lift the cup one last time ...

Vegas deal ...
Hagelin with some retention and 2 years under contract makes for amazing trade bait at the deadline (but that's Crosby's BFF so best for Pens to move before then if they want to) ... should net them at least 2nd and probably a prospect from a contender. He's only two years older then Haula, with a TON more experience (which includes 2 cups) and has put up more points on average.

Maatta is an upgrade from Merrill for Vegas ... but in PIT system it's kind of wash because we have Hunwick and Ruhwedel, and can add talent as the college season ends like we did with Sheary, Rust, Prow, Aston-Reese, Johnson, Hertzel ... They are a place young FA want to sign, which saves their kind mediocre drafting.

Karlsson has proved more then Kuhnhackle, but it's hard to crack PIT's roster because of the depth and NCAA recruits. He's put up good numbers playing 4th line mins with WIlson and Cullen or Roweny.

I think the trade is pretty even to this point, but the down grade in Karlsson has me offer PITs 1st for their second (should only be 10 spots or so) and the 4th hopefully to close it out.

NJ deal ...
Sheary is great and I believe his numbers are inflated by as much as 20% (.85/.65ppg) which still has him as a 50pt a year guy (in a full season) as long as he has some talent around him. If he's going to break $4m I think PIT has to move on from him while his value is up and I just like the 2 players I get, and the draft pick helps make up for what we gave up in the Vegas deal.

Blandisi is potentially a C, but most likely a W. He has a grinders tool set, but offensive talent on top. I'd like to see him provide some net front, but he's skilled enough to shake a defender, and beat a goaltender as well. Very good AHL numbers. Hopefully he can help replace Hornqvist by seasons end.

Santini has great size and is right handed Dman. He's played in the NHL already, but not consistently. He could be a solid 2-way guy, maybe by seasons end. I give up Pouliot (only a year older) to help NJ swallow the pill of moving him.

I like Santini as a right-hand shot defensive defender as a full-time #6. Blandisi could come handy as a gritty winger who could play anywhere either a winger on both sides or maybe a productive center on the 4th. So he is not a guy on the 4th to see 10 mins and protect players (you know what I mean). The issues I have with him are if he 1) is not fast 2) is not good defensively 3) takes too much penalties (lots of PIMs on stats). I could see him playing first on the 4th (Wilson-Blandisi-Rowney or Blandisi-Rowne-Reaves) and then moving to the Sid's line as a winger when his's adjusted to the play. Well it would be great if he came up like Kevin Stevens did literally out of nowhere. I see NJ accept that because they have Wood and Boucher higher than Blandisi, might not be that high on Santini, actually are in need of offensive Ds and yes actually Shero knows Pouliot... While trading with NJ I would actually like to see Henrique coming but I thought this trade could have brought PIT more value long-term.

I think Haula, Karlsson could be tough to be brought in. They just signed Haula and perhaps now are counting on him badly. I see the possibility of trading for their Cs is 1) Eakin 2)Karlsson ... ?) Haula. But a 1st and a 4th, Maatta might actually work here. Hagelin is a good value here like you've said. I wouldn't trade him just for trading away for a pick or a player after a season off (Sheahan, Girgensons...). He was brought here as one of the fastest players and one of the best PKer in a league and think he still could have been better than had been past two seasons. Loosing Maatta might be not a good thing to do but adding to what you've mentioned I personally think Merrill fits the way PIT play better and is actually better than Pouliot current ability wise.

As a devils fan. I would love for this to happen. I do like Santini but i can't see passing up on Sheary and Pouliot. This is a perfect trade opportunity for both teams considering NJ has all the cap space to consider signing Sheary to a long term deal that the Pens just can't afford. Santini and Blandisi are two guys who could jump into that Pens lineup and produce right away at the rate they should, and they'll be cheap options. Great Trade for both teams
