Not commenting on the relative values here, but Roy doesn't make much sense for Montreal.

Good win-win on that trade.
Don’t know why you said it’s does not make sense. Mtl would want to turn the corner next year and get bigger.
Roy only 27 years old and can patrol a third and a fourth better than Jake who’s I love btw

Team's don't "turn a corner" by paying for bottom 6 guys. And Montreal has a lot of guys who can play center lower down in the lineup, they just need to get healthy. What Montreal actually needs is more guys who can play higher in the lineup.

There would likely be teams who would pay that for Roy, I just can't see Montreal doing that.

Roy is better than Evans, and consistently plays in Vegas' top 6... so yeah N.Roy would be a great fit for MTL imo.

Not saying he's a 2C, but that he's still an improvement over Evans. and when it comes to depth players, points aren't the be all end all. Roy was instrumental for Vegas in their playoff runs with his physical play, and his ability to play anywhere in the lineup.

I really don't see why Habs wouldn't want to upgrade Evans for N.Roy... Very much a no brainer imo... N.Roy also plays the wing, so there's a ton of flexibilty too if MTL have other centers they want to use (Beck) or acquire (bring back Monahan?).

Because you dont waste assets on minor moves. Hes not a material improvement on evans.

If you're insinuating that Evans and a 2nd rd pick could be used to acquire a bigger fish, then yes, I agree; Go for the bigger fish.

Counter-argument: Neither Evans nor a 2nd rd pick really moves the needle to acquire bigger fish. So making "minor" improvements using those assets is exactly what you should be using them for.

Nicolas Roy would be a perfect addition for a 3rd or 4th line.

He brings that deep forecheck and cycle game that habs lack in their bottom 6. Evans is great defensively - but I rather have a player who spends more time in the Ozone keeping the puck deep.

A Armia -Roy- Newhook line could be great.

Second round pick and fifth are not asset when you already have ton of that
One day you have to get better and it’s start with small improvement like that
I don’t say that Mtl don’t need a second liner winger tho but a team isn’t just a top of the line up

A 2nd definitely moves the needle in acquiring a bigger piece wtf are ypu talking about. Its also a 2nd for a likely bad team so it could be a top 40 pick.

And speaking of moving the needle you are vastly overatting roy. His career high in goals is 15 and points is 39. At 27 thats his ceiling.

His career high in non powerplay points is 34. Evans is 29. Evans has significantly better defensive metrics and faceoff stats. Many gms if building a team would take jake at 1.7 over nicolas at 3

If you were to try and acquire a Zegras or a Necas (you know… big fish) adding a 2nd really doesn’t do much… there’s needs to be a key premium asset… hence why I said it doesn’t move the needle.
This isn’t NHL24 where adding 2nds and 3rds increases the value of your offer.

For lesser pieces, sure, 2nd rd picks are great. And N.Roy fits that description. You’re definitely not getting him for less. But hey, I’d love to be proven wrong!
