There's no incentive for Winnipeg to do that.

why would the sharks do this? just keep sucking for a few more years until you develop your prospects

WPG is pretty reliant on drafting and developing; they don't just throw around high picks. They're more likely to buyout Schmidt if they cant move him for a late pick or even FC.

That's how you ruin the development of your prospects.

With that said Montour gets more and will want to stay with a competiive team. Also 5/6 d-men are lefties, that would cause some issues

Yeah, the cost it's so high that it renders the incentive null.

They traded their 1st or third this year (only one 2nd) and their 2nd next year, so that kinda contradicts what you're saying

They traded them for impact pieces, not to dump a contract.

Isles say no, we are only clearing 2.5 million dollars of cap space, if we are paying a second to dump Pager it would be at his full cap hit and no salary taken back

Clears $10 million. Not sure if Iafallo a cap dump or not? But Winnipeg has to make choices this summer.

They would be taking the full cap hit in the 25-26 portion. He has 2 more years lef, Rutta has one

They can buy out Schmidt and make other moves if need be. Cheaper than throwing away a high pick and a useful player.

I see what you mean that buyout isn’t that painful

i get that but we still take on 2.5 for one year, a 2nd alone pays for Pager dump and at that point retain salary than we can get a pick back

Brandon Montour stays with Florida for that weak offer, he's getting every bit 7 x $6,250,000 on the open market. He's not taking $5,000,000 per in high taxed California.

Its not that painful to buyout Schmidt but combine his buyout with the 2nd year of Wheeler's buyout and its $5.4M of dead cap space, gonna be interesting to see how they manage the offseason, hate to see him go but I think Ehlers gets traded this summer.

Iafallo, Montour, and Zadorov are nice additions. Probably can't afford Montour, though.

Wasn’t quite sure his value TBH. Sounds like Sharks would have to offer a lot more

Zadorov alledgedly not great defensively but love his size and snarl. Might be a nice guy to pair with Mukhmadullin for a few years.

By no means do I expect the Sharks to be good next year but they can’t be this bad again.
