I think Batherson - Boeser is a downgrade. That makes the rest way too much for 1 year of Chychrun.

Batherson probably has more value than Boeser though because he has 3 more years on his contract at a cheap cap hit while Boeser is a UFA after next season

I believe that Boeser will take a long term deal at low cap hit to stay in VAN similar to RNH. Something like 8 years at 6M-7M, which would be a bargain deal and below market value. Independent of that I don't like sending out that many assets for a non-impact player at a non-premium position.

One of the characteristics of Rutherford teams is the defense is pretty inexpensive and doesn't require super high end players all over to be effective. We got our stud #1 and they are content to fill holes around that with different types of players like Zadorov and Soucy. Hronek might push it but I don't think they'd be looking at burning assets on another defenseman, more likely a forward. Simply re-signing Zadorov would be a much better move for the organization in my eyes.

I think this team is very solid though.

Yeah Ottawa likely sticks with Batherson, under Martin (structure coach) he would be on pace for 40G 39A 79pts. At $4.9M for 3 more years? They wouldn't trade two major pieces off their roster for Boeser, a cap dump (Mikheyev), a 7th round prospect, a 2nd round prospect and a late 1st rounder. Ottawa isn't looking for futures, they are trying to make the playoffs next season. Batherson is also in the conversation for an "A" once Giroux is gone.

Why would ottawa ever consider this?

They take on more cap , get worse , have to negotiate with Boeser for just a 2026 1st lol
