That's way too much. Goalies are voodoo (as the saying goes). Georgiev has been lousy, but he was great the year before, and I wouldn't be surprised if they ran it back with him again.

In any case, they aren't moving Girard after having already traded Byram. They won't gut their D. Take him out and I think Colorado might do it, but they generally don't spend much money or capital on goalies (Kuemper was an exception, but that only happened because their other plans fell through and they were desperate). Of course at that point Calgary might get more elsewhere, and if so, good for them.

So who's leaving to clear cap space?

Colton or Manson would be my guess. Or maybe they replace Georgiev with someone cheap like LA.

Think of this though. Every year all the rumblings are about how the Avs are gonna trade Girard, and they never do. Before there was at least logic for speculation with Byram being around. Now that doesn't exist. They have Toews and Girard on the left. Then it's Jack Johnson, who is a UFA. They can't afford to move him.

I've wondered about the possibility of them moving Nichushkin. With the whole playoff incident last year and the player assistance program this year, probably not with his NMC though.

Not a prayer COL does that not even close it wouldn’t be close if you took out the first.

A 1st is the going rate for that much retention, Girard alone isn't worth near enough for a retained Markstrom.

Even with all of that, I can't see them moving Nichushkin. Look at his ice time. He plays more than anyone except Makar, Toews, Rantanen, and MacKinnon. Personal issues or not, they rely on him a lot.

Speaking of ice time, sort the roster by that and work from low to high. Those on the low end are more likely to be moved, with Mittelstadt being the one exception (because of the position he plays). That, combined with marketability, is how I land on Colton or Manson.

Late 1st isn't enough for 6M of retention, Marleau retention netted 12th overall pick. On top of that Girard isn't enough for Markström 1-for-1, and Georgiev is negative asset, COL would probably have to add their -26 first and one B-tier prospect (Foudy, Olausson) for CGY to consider it.

I don't consider Gerogiev as a negative asset in this trade, I think it would benefit Wolf a lot to be able to learn from a goalie who's about the same size as him.

That wouldn't get Markstrom without retention. Flames have no interest in Girard.

Why not? We need a top 4 LD to play with Andersson.

Girard would be a disaster in Calgary. Calgary needs a big physical defenseman or two not a Girard.

I'd rather have a defensively responsible guy to pair with Andersson so he can do his thing offensively myself.

That's the opposite of what Girard is.

Probably an easy no for both teams.
