MacKinnon and Rantenan can only bail Colorado out so much

You can't be suggesting they're a two man team. Cmon. And let's remember, much of Colorado's team has done it in the playoffs. Most of the Jets either have not or their playoff performance record is much less impressive than their regular season record.

I can see it being viewed either way.

no one moved any goal posts. You can just stop there. Not even worth reading what was after that.
no one moved anything, no one is changing any conversation.
If you see my other post on here you can clearly see 7 of the last 10 cup winners had a franchise level forward. Period.
yeah teams can win with depth without one..... but your odds are just much lower. A star goal scorer puck handler is going to carry a team on his back. You can blame McDavid all day about he didn't do this, he didn't do that.... it's all BS. You damn well know he can dominate a series. It's just a matter of time till it happens. He's only had 5 shots at it so far and getting to the 3rd round in one of them. It's not like Crosby won a his first time. It took 3 attempts... and it took a lot of help around him at a young age, including another franchise player on the team with him in Malkin. It took them another 7 years to win a 2nd one. But it should go to show you that teams with those levels of players are the ones winning cups. regardless of if they are the "deeper" team.
Don't come tell me McDavid ain't no Crosby, he's matured and plays a great game today. The same is true with MacKinnon.
DAL can be the deepest team, but they aren't the most talented.

Muh huh. Changing from "high end talent" to "franchise player" is a goalpost move. And McDavid has not come anywhere near carrying a team on his back past the 2nd round. You yourself said it was because the team was not strong enough around him - unlike those other top players who did win a Cup because they did not have to carry everyone on their backs, which is not how to win a Cup. This is not difficult at all.

i'm starting to wonder if you watch these games....

as for dallas - robertson had 109 points last season with 46 goals. heiskanen is a stud. they've got two other 30+ goal scorers. they've got the top end guys. it's helpful that their entire lineup plays a winning brand of hockey.

it's clear you didn't. Or are we suppose to believe Jakes 23 goals in 37 playoff games in two years are because he was on the 3rd line.... but hey maybe that's why Crosby won the MVP and had 46 points in those two playoff series right?

You sound like a clown when you make such bad comments. Everyone knows which line carried the team. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.

I have already stated this, heiskanen is a franchise player, but you aren't going to win with a franchise defenseman and not the goal scorer forward that teams need. It's just to hard to win from the blueline without the forward help. This is why teams start with centers not defensemen. The only defenseman in your life who's even looked remotely capable of that was EK, and he didn't get it done.
heiskanen is no EK in his prime so that's a dead argument.
As much as you want to say Robertson is a FP because he had 1 season of 100 points doesn't mean he is. Is he a good 1st line player, sure he is. But there is difference between being a good player and a franchise player and you know that. It's like saying you would swap him with Pasta....you wouldn't and we both know it.

there are way more example of teams winning with star power than depth. Which is why every team wants that star player.

Last 10 Stanley cups.
VGK -
COL - MacKinnon
TB - Kuch
TB - Kuch
STL -
WSH - OV
PIT - Crosby
PIT - Crosby
CHI - Kane
LAK

Go round and round on it all you like. 7/10 of the last 10 teams had a legit Franchise player.
You need a guy who can put a team on his back and carve up other teams.
You look at DAL, they don't have that guy. Yeah, it's possible they could win...... but you seriously under estimate the power of a star player to tilt the ice.
You can look at those team up there and they were not the "deeper" team in the playoffs. Hell that PIT team had make shift blue line of Ron Hainsey, it didn't matter.
When you got a Crosby and a Malkin, it goes a long freaking way.
So yeah DAL has a deeper team. But there is no body on DAL who can drag DAL kicking and screaming like McDavid can.
That's the point.
Don't get caught on the wrong end of McDavid on a tear or you'll be out. Because he has just enough help to win. That's what it boils down to. A team like DAL needs to be deep, EDM don't, COL don't.
They can have their stars carry them.

This is exactly why Dallas and Carolina are top-rated teams going into the playoffs every year but haven't got the job done. At some point they run into a team that has depth AND top-end skill.

FYI Eichel was elite in the playoffs last year.

yeah sure thing dude. you over here raging on high end talent FP goal post moving troll job because you just can't admit DAL ain't got it.
It's pretty clear when I said DAL don't have high end talent and then mention guys like McDavid we both know what the hell we are talking about here.
But go on raging.

oh this is fun - go through those past stanley cup winners in the cup era. with a couple exceptions (mostly pittsburgh because i'm not a huge letang fan), it's a true all situation #1 d man. it seems more important than the goal scorer, and pretty significantly so.

after losing one argument you keeping trying to jump to the next to prove you are wrong again.
What's a matter, can't defend your hot take on the penguins HBK line and how Crosby didn't carry the team?
Some feckless argument about "high level player" not working so we drag on to this poor one too.

If it was so easy to win the game from the blue line, why did OTT get sent home packing by a penguins team with literally no blue line.
They had the greatest defenseman leading them in EK in his prime.
Funny how you really can't account for the fact that 7/10 of those teams up there running a legit franchise level forward. Hell you don't even want to recognize that. You'd have to admit that this "strange" coincidence in hockey history that the majority of cup winning teams have a franchise level forwards. I mean how weird right? What are the odds?

Fact is most of those cup winners, if any, didn't have a franchise level defenseman.
They had one that was good enough. We can clearly say they aren't of the franchise level of player like an EK was.

But there is a pretty clear history of having a franchise goal scorer. Funny how goals win games in the end eh?

You just can't admit it. But it's just like CD says up top. DAL been a favorite for years....they didn't get it done.

Always run into the team with higher end talent. But you want to talk about how McDavid can't get it done. Please.

You are just wrong. The evidence is there in every draft. Because centers are the 1st thing off that board when all talent levels are equal.
A franchise forward is a faster route to the cup than any defenseman will ever be. The past cup winners show this repeatedly.

DAL yeah has a good team. But they don't have a single high end talent forward who scares anyone. But MacDavid and MacKinnon will put teams on their heels.
Ain't no team changing how they play for a franchise defenseman. But you gonna play back on McDavid or you are going to get burned.
But keep thinking you are going to win from the blue line.

dude you the one who jumped in trying to act like you know something.
Maybe you should think before posting and realize if you got high end talent you don't need the most depth to win.
Star players who skate 23-25 minutes a night will always be more important than some depth pieces staking 8-10.

what ever is going on it's OK man.......You can admit your wrong instead of constantly trying to spiral an argument.
DAL doesn't have high end talent and high end talent wins cups not depth.
It's ok, breath....if you are having a real hard time, try a crisis center or hotline.
