A top 10 pick might be realistic for a goalie like Swayman.
For Markström... not so much.

Not even close, really.

Would take that in a heartbeat if I was the Islanders. You really think that’s all Mangiapane goes for?

Yall need goaltending pretty damn badly. Marky at 34 is still a top 20 goalie in the league. Rn he has some trust issues with management and needs a change of scenery. Say he’s worth a second on his own, throw retention on and he’s valued at a late first. Throw in VAN first and pair that with the fact that NJ doesn’t need the pick, and that trade gets done, no?

I really like that Markstrom deal for both parties, I wonder if the Devils are serious about contending next year you merge the two deals into something like this:

NJD receives: Markstrom (2M retained), Mangiapane (2M retained), 2024 2nd RP (DAL)
CAL receives: Schmid, Palat (to make cap work), 2024 1st RP (NJD)

Markstrom in his age 33 and 34 seasons has been right around .900 save percentage - that would put him in the 30-40 range. Given the history of goalies I'm not sure Markstrom would:
1) Be worth a top ten pick even if he was a top 20 goalie in the league the past two seasons
2) Get any better for his age 35 and 36 seasons.

So why would New Jersey pay the top ten pick now?

No. Trading a super valuable asset like #10 for a mid 30s goalie having a last hurrah of career year but also falling off a cliff right after TDL would be a disastrous move for the Devils.
And what do you mean about the Devils not needing the pick? Picking a top 6 guy up on an ELC for when the Devils are right in the middle of their window of contention would be huge for them.

Besides, it's not like Markström is the only goalie out there.
Ullmark could probably be had for the NJD 2025 1st. Kähkönen played amazing in very difficult circumstances over the course of the season, could easily resign him. Allen had a very good showing too.
Point being, there are plenty of better alternatives than Markström out there for the Devils. Markström never made any sense to acquire, even less so now.

Who would you take with that 10th overall? Risk taking Eiserman in the top ten? Celebrini, Demidov, Catton, Lindstrom and Iginla all go before 10. Eiserman is a liability outside of the O zone 99% of the time, Helenius is good, but not insane offensively, Nygard isn’t good enough to risk choosing him as a top ten pick and Connelly is a player with some big holes in his game rn. The pick is 100% expendable.

3 years of Palat at 6 mil per and 2 mil retention each on Markstrom and Mangiapane? No deal!

Yes, for Swayman.
Not for Markström and a bunch of lesser assets.

The Devils have pretty good depth in their prospect pipeline, your idea of the Devils moving way further back in the draft doesn't fill a need for them.

I'd be happy with Eiserman or Helenius at #10. One of Brandsegg-Nygård, Parekh or Buium could also be available.
There's gonna be a very interesting player available at #10. Is that not why you'd love for the Flames to trade Markström for that pick?

No, one of Marky or Vladar need to go, and Marky has more value. I could care less about the pick, it’s more about getting Markys value right. The extra pick is a bonus. NJ is just one of the only teams that need better goaltending. I’d offer the same to Colorado or… maybe not EDM.

Add Toronto to the list of teams that need better goaltending. A bidding war may be brewing. Saros is unlikely to be moved that pretty much just leave Markstrom and Ulmark as realistic possibilities for 4+ teams.

Yep, Ullmark, Saros and Marky go to the leafs, oilers and devils, maybe the sabres or Ottawa too

I doubt Saros will be moved. If Colorado is willing to trade Calum Ritchie that'd be ideal for Calgary's needs. Murray Edwards might even let Conroy retain 50%.

I think most deals regarding Colorado and an upgrade in net will start with Ritchie. After the fat goose egg that Georgiev layed last game, they really need that upgrade

Yeah Boston would almost certainly ask for Ritchie and Ritchie+ might be enough to get the Preds to seriously consider moving Saros too.

If Saros is available he's everyone's number 1 target but he'd also cost to more to acquire.

Ulmark vs Marky is where it gets interesting. Marky when hot is the better of the two but when he's cold he's really cold. The extra year left on his contract makes him worth a little more but Ulmark can sign an extension this summer. If Ulmark comes with an extension then he probably fetches a bit more than Marky.

Trying reading the rest of the thread before making idiotic comments. If they aren't willing to pay for Marky they won't be able to afford Ulmark or (dream on) Saros either.

34 year old goalie, who literally hold the power where he goes, so Flame have no leverage

NJ has no leverage. Calgary is perfectly content to keep Markstrom if they don't get an acceptable offer for him.

I mean… they probably won’t anyways. Let’s keep it a buck, NJ wants the world, but isn’t willing to give up a large piece of theirs to get that. Top goalies don’t just grow on trees, hence the reason they don’t have one rn, and to get one it costs a pretty penny.
