Why would the Leafs give up so much for one year of Saros? Is Saros THAT special? Lots of UFA goalies available.

Other way around. It's Cowen and meh. Gotta entice Trotz to move Saros and this isn't it

Much as the Avs (and the fans) would be loathe to give up LOC I don't see how they could turn that down tbh.

But what is so special about Saros, especially now? There are probably just as good goalies available in as UFAs and will come cheaper.

The only goalie with decent numbers that is a starter that will be ufa is Talbot (age 36).

Sure Brossoit and Stolarz put up good numbers but they are career backups and have never started more than 30 games in a single season. I dont see the GM of a major team going with a 30/31 year old backup as their starting goalie.

Probably none, but let's talk about the "now." Three UFA goalies have better save % than Saros had this season. Heck Leaf 766,000 Woll had near indentical GAA, and save % to than Saros this season.

Lol, what about Woll's end to the season and how Toronto trust Samsonov to start more than him. You also just compared 36 career NHL games to 351.

Nice. Woll doesn't have the pedigree. Bad comparable.

Nice. Saros might have pedigree in the past, but he's reaching the middling stage. Teams don't give up a top prospect for one year of that. Has Saros won one playoff series in the NHL?
Leafs started Samsonov because he has been good to very good in the past four months.
Sorry, the trade value of one year of Saros just isn't that high.

Love how Leaf fans slandered the Cowan pick because he was supposed to be a 3-4 round pick, now he's a top prospect.

Saros playoff history is more to do with the lackluster teams in front of him. If you don't want him, cool. We aren't trading a career .917 top goalie for a B level prospect and some scraps. Sorry, you're a Toronto fan, that might burn a bit.

Sorry that you're ill informed that you don't think Cowan isn't a top prospect by any standard. Either way you look at it, Saros is pending UFA in the summer of 2025. The current edition of Saros, and his contract isn't worth the Leafs or really any team to trade for him. Can you think of one team that would give up so much for Saros?

I never said it would take "so much" to get him. Just stated that this trade proposal sucks. You're still getting a full year of Saros. And I can DEFINITELY think of teams that'd be interested in a goalie that plays 60 games a season who has been a perennial vezina candidate with a career .917. LAK were reportedly very interested at the deadline.

I don't think Cowen is a top prospect, by any standard. He was a projected 3-4rd pick drafted too high. Everyone knew that. One good OHL season doesn't automatically make him a top prospect. Nolan Burke scored just under a goal per game and couldn't even crack our AHL team. Too early to say.

What "current edition" are you waffling about? A .906 isn't that bad considering he put our team on his back and was one of the MAIN factors in carrying our team into the playoffs. Without him we'd just be .500. We weren't even expected to surpass 40 wins this season.

Like I said, we aren't trading him for a B prospect and some scraps. Don't care how many Leaf fans try to convince me their prospects are best in the league. If you think Woll is even remotely comparable, keep him. Go crazy.

Don't know why have such a hate for Leaf fans. But thank you for not naming ONE team that has cap or desire for one year of Saros. You make it sound like the Leafs are the only team in the league that
HAS to take 5m Saros. More BS from you. How does naming Cowan a very good NHL prospect, have any bearing on other Leaf prospects. Actually the Leaf prospects total is not numerous at all. But to lump Cowan in with many of the others.....just silly argument on your part.

I labeled Cowen correctly. B prospect. I said that I don't care how many Toronto fans try to convince me their guys are top prospects, which is all they do on here.

Lol, are you drunk? This trade involves Saros to Toronto. Lock in, dude. That's the entire point of this conversation.

Also, why bring up his contract? He's well worth his money.

Now I'm going to circle back AGAIN to my ORIGINAL point, since you want to keep going off track. Nashville isn't trading Saros for this. It's a crappy proposal. If you think Cowen is a top prospect and Woll will have great success because he had a better save% (albeit in like HALF the games with half the workload, lol), then run him back next season.

Thats all you man

Sorry that you are being so one sided in your love or Saros in this proposal. The Leafs are much better keeping Chadwick.Grebenkin, Cowan, the third rounder and spend 5m on a UFA goalie than make that trade for one year of Saros. I'll agree with you, Preds aren' trading Saros for a crappy proposal. But the Leafs would be robbed in this trade went through.
