Signing Lindholm to be 3C is like buying an Audi to haul Christmas trees.

Adding Lindholm to a 1 year deal to help support Cozens and Thompson would be a great move. I assume he would get 8m+ if it were only a 1 year deal though. Having too many good centres is not a problem.

DeMelo and Lindholm would be great adds here. Especially if it were only 1-3 years for Lindholm. I think he gets more on a 1 year deal though. Either way, I think this is well done!

I assume Deharnais gets more than this also. But you can definitely get a big, physical, bottom pair, defensive dman for that money.

You do not sign the top C on the FA market to play at 3C. You do not spend that much money on a 3C. You need a good work truck, not a sportscar. Of course you can never have too many centers, but first of all he gets more than that, and second of all, Buffalo has bigger problems than filling 3C. Better to spend 6.5 million on an actually viable veteran 2RD, for example.

The OP also did exactly just that as well. He signed DeMelo as the very viable veteran 2RD...

In this scenario Buffalo would run 3 lines ALOT. If they have any injuries they have depth. They can also play a guy like Lindholm on the wing also .

incredibly unlikely they add another top 4 d-man. That would require pushing samulesson to third pair which they wont do.

Canucks pass. No interest we need the cap space to resign Lindholm.

Samuelsson was a top 4D in Granato's eyes... Doesn't mean he is in Lindy's

Samuelsson has a problem staying injured. He can be replaced.

Neither of these guys is the GM, who views Samuelsson as a top 4 guy.

I don't see how you can roster build to deploy him in the Top4. Byram has played some of his worst hockey on the right side and Power-Dahlin can't be broken up with how they played down the stretch. Need someone to play the right side with Byram and that moves Samuelsson to 3LD or off the roster.

They probably think Samuelsson will be better off the top pair and that Byram will play better with samuelsson than he will with Jokiharju. I agree they should move on but they wont do it this summer. Theyre largely a reactionary franchise. If he has another bad season, then he's probably gone.

Doubt Lindholm does a 1-year deal but you never know. I'd like to bring in a true grinder for the 4th line via FA or trade. Lots of options out there. Demelo would be very nice on the 2nd pair but I'd go aggressive on Roy or Pesce as I see them as better players overall. If we do a stop-gap backup I'd hope for someone better than Riitich.
