Lindy Guys

Created by: Chapee44
Team: 2024-25 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 24, 2024
Published: Apr. 24, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Lindy likes guys who play attacking hockey from smart positioning to maintain defensive structure. I got 4 new forwards here who do that and supported them with 3 veteran dmen who are responsible but can activate/shoot.
My logic for buying out Skinner is it saves money in year 1 and 2 when paired with the Foegele contract as both sums are less than 9M. Year 3 is when it hurts, but that year there will be 3-5 valuable ELCs on the roster that aren't currently to remedy that (Kulich, Ostlund, Savoie, Wahlberg, '24 1st). The following 3 years are manageable from there.
Extensions:
Peterka 7M x 8 years
Quinn 5M x 2 years
Byram 6M x 2 years
Buchnevich 7.5M x 5 years
Levi, Johnson, Rousek, negligible.
Lindholm, Greenway, Girgensons, Martinez replaced with ELCs/league min. vets.

Not necessarily saying no but how sure are we that Mattias Samuelsson actually has the juice

The Blues aren't accepting that. I have no idea how they'd feel about Sammy, but I'm fairly sure pushing the 1st until next year and a small winger aren't going to entice. Those items are presumably worth more to the Sabres than they would be to Army.

If the trade happens after the draft then the next 1st is 2025...

Some Blues fans on here are really unreasonable. The Blues would accept this if they decide to trade Buch.

I think he does, he’s been pretty good when I’ve watched him

That being said I’m not a big Rosen believer, would rather someone else

I think the real issue here is that if Buch is willing to 5 x 7.5, then why aren't we signing him??

Right, but why would they do that? He's not on the block. Someone will have to pry him away.

You're assuming the plan is to re-sign him and that they agree to terms including NTC/NMC etc.
Also from his end that he wants to stay with the team.
Any pending UFA is always discussable as being available because either side might see it as beneficial to get out while there's value on the table.

Being discussable and on the block are two very different animals. And what might occur later is irrelevant today. Today, he's not available, but Army is willing to listen because it's the smart thing to do. Doesn't make him available today. If Buch stays past the draft, it's a pretty safe bet he is in STL when the season starts provided no one says magic words.

I disagree whole heartedly with this sentiment for all of the reasons I previously stated.

You disagree that a player openly being offered around and a player a team has no intention of trading are different? Well, okay, but that sort of stance from a bidding team ain't gonna fetch Buch.

And exactly no one is assuming the plan is to re-sign Buch. Army has made that clear repeatedly and publicly.

No I disagree that it should be assumed the player even wants to re-sign. Or that the team wants to re-sign him.
At this point that offer is as competitive as you're gonna get for him. A 2LD(upside) plus a mid-1st round prospect coming off a solid AHL year and an unprotected 1st in the upcoming draft is a haul.

Again, nobody is assuming the Blues want to extend Buch. This has been well established. And the Blues are not courting offers. Also well established. I mean, you can throw a pile of ifs across a passage time and anything becomes possible. Right now is the situation right now.

Right which is that he could be available for a fair price if extension talks don't pick up, which this is more than fair.

First of all...

https://www.nhl.com/blues/news/armstrong-buchnevich-open-to-extension-talks

Secondly, value to one team is not always going to be the same value to another. There's value, and then there's the right value. Unless Army is madly in love with Sammy, this is not the right value. The Blues would be much happier with less value in the right pieces. Which you guys definitely have a lot of.
