Description
Add whatever pick(s) to the Marner trade to make it happen. I just wanted to see how the team cap fits with moves like this.

Nod to Russo on the Perron signing, but really any player under $4M to push Jojo off the 2nd line.

Gustavsson has not been good enough this past season to make this trade work.

You need several seasons of Matt Boldy and Marco Rossi a lot more than you need one season of Mitch Marner, and if Marner is going to re-sign with you in 2025, you can wait until 2025 for him to do so.

I'm not spending a second-round draft pick on Filip Gustavsson, who could be this year's Scott Darling (one and done).

GM’s don’t “wait a year” to sign a guy if they have a chance to get him sooner - that’s a dumb perceived way that only capfriendly users seem to think is logical. GM’s know their job isn’t secure and if they see a way to improve the team while they’re in control, they do it. Hence why trading for Marner would be a good idea because it gets him into the system sooner and helps them win now. GM’s can’t wait for a window to close before they make a move. & another reason would be adding Marner before free agency gives Minnesota a chance to sign Marner for 8 years instead of 7 and it gives them a lot more negotiating time to get a better deal done.

But this notion of “waiting a year” is not something that GM’s do.

I'm confused on what the hesitation is? Is it his cap? His cap hit is $3.75mill for only 2 more seasons and he's a year removed from a very good season. Behind the kings excellent defensive structure, there's a very good chance he rebounds.
All you're giving up is Kaliyev, who doesn't have too much trade value...

There is a 2nd and Kaliyev for a guy who couldn't break .900 this season. Wild have some of the best shutdown players in the league, can't say the Kings defensive structure is that far off.

The Kings spent less than a million on Talbot (.913 SV%) and Rittich (.921 SV%). LA could do better from free agency, Gustavasson hasn't strung together two good seasons so far.

Brodin was injured for almost 20 games, Spurgen gone for basically the whole season...that's the Wild's top pairing right there. Any team that loses their top pair will have a struggling goalie. ***note that i know Faber stepped in and played great***

My argument on the Kings superior defensive structure is exemplified by Talbot and Rittich. Talbot is well passed the days he was a legit starter, but he put together a very good season. Look at Rittich's past season stats, he's never been as good as he was this season. Its obvious that they're success was because of the Kings system...

Wild have already committed to MAF and Gustavasson is the odd man out with Wallsted coming.

LA could go after Lankinen, Murray, Sorokin, etc. for free and likely at cheaper contracts without giving up a 2nd or Kaliyev. I dont get why they are paying so much for something the Wild have to do.

Sorokin?! Blud he's one of the best goalies in the league, how do you get him for free?!
Gustaffson >> Lankinen and Murray, easy argument.

I just think for the Kings, Gustaffson is a solid option, and a 2nd and Kaliyev is not a whole lot to give up. Kings are literally a goalie away from being legit contenders, this is coming from an Oilers fan. No point in you guys consecutively going to the FA market or waiver wire and getting goalies on 1 year deals.
