Swayman extension plus Ullmark to Ottawa for Chychrun

Created by: kscoop
Team: 2024-25 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 25, 2024
Published: Apr. 25, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Swayman cementing himself as a true #1 elite goaltender in the NHL. Ullmark also amazing but he will be traded this offseason. If Ullmark accepts a trade to Ottawa this deal makes perfect sense for both teams.
Bring back Bertuzzi. I just love this guy. Merkulov has to play regular minutes next season or he'll get moved. Lauko and Maroon in and out of lineup as needed. Lots of interchangeable parts to this squad.

Ullmark isn't going to Canada, Eastern or not.

I also don't understand some B's fans still in love with Bertuzzi. He got 40 points playing with Matthews, I'm not giving him that contract.

You also didn't address the need for a top 6 center.

No one knows what Ullmark is going to do if a contract extension is presented that he wants to sign.

Is he saying no to Canada because of tax reasons on his current contract or does he just prefer the personality of Americans to Canadians? One of those points can be overcome with an extension. The other would just be a character flaw smile

Or maybe he doesn't want to live in a place where the temperature is below freezing from early to mid November thru March/april. A couple years ago TB was playing Ottawa just before the Christmas break and they showed people ice skating on the river lake whatever it was . They said they just started letting people skate on it a week ago because the temperature had to be below freezing for at least 6 weeks. Brrr

I just can't understand why trading Ullmark for a short-term (shortest possible term) asset is a good idea, especially when it doesn't achieve even half a million dollars in cap relief.

The average median temperature each month between November and April Boston runs between 10-15 degrees warmer. That's pretty substantial actually.

The equal cap exchange and term, doesn't really make sense for the Bruins. Ullmark is kinda of a tough trade for Bruins because who on his trade list has the cap for him, without sending equal cap back to the Bruins.

well yeah theres absolutely a difference, but I would think for someone born and raised in Sweden, that 10-15 degrees of warmth difference is not a complete deal-breaker

I was raised in western New York got out and you couldn't pay me enough to go back. It's not like he can't go to Carolina or Columbus or Washington make the same. That on top of the taxes( which he doesn't see the free health care benefits of.tge weather. Might just be a piece 🧩 n the no puzzle

No but I'm absolutely certain I'm not the only person that feels that way considering Florida grew by over 6 million people between the last 2 census

There is something to be said about being able to go play hockey on a pond, like how it started. I personally enjoy winter, in also in one of the more coldest points in Canada that's not a northern territory. That said, the nice weather and tax benefits would probably outweigh my love for winter if I had a choice.

He can’t sign anywhere for next year. He can wait a year and take the risk that he doesn’t fit immediately if he’s traded, which can impact his long term value.

He will be a lame duck who can be traded at any moment and be separated from his family. He can isolate the radius of distance, but he can’t stop it.

He may want a trade if it comes with an extension and his leverage point is actually higher with teams on his no trade clause. We know he didn’t want a trade without an extension

Look at where Boston is with regards to their place vis a vis other contenders. Why would they trade Carlo and his below market contract for a late first. They aren’t Calgary with Hanifin or maybe even Ottawa with Chychrun
