Leafs don't need another expiring contract LHD, and the expense of the cheaper Liljegren and Jarnkrok.

OTT only trades Chychrun to TOR if Knies comes the other way which understandable if you don’t want to

Ottawa get Lilj, Hirvonen, Jarnkrok and the privilege of moving up about 10-15 spots from early 2nd to late 1st for Chychrun. No way Ottawa gives you that high 2nd back for that return.

Makes zero sense for the Leafs:
1/ They don’t need a LHD
2/ keep your assets and sign RHD (priority need) in FA
3/ No trades in division; why help the tire fire in Kanata - let them continue to battle for lottery picks
