👏👏CALGARY👏DOES👏NOT👏WANT👏OR👏NEED👏MARNER👏👏. They also do not need to trade Huberdeau since they don't need cap space and Andersson is more important to this team than another pending UFA

Getting out of the Huberdeau contract is tempting though but Flames ultimately decline. I imagine Huberdeau and Marner both refuse to waive too

Marner for Huberdeau straight up maybe... If Calgary retains 50% on Marner they could flip him for something decent. Nothing remotely close to what delusional Toronto fans think he's worth (without retention yet!) but something decent.

Marner 100% has value. Calgary is a bad fit though for sure

Not much value without retention or an extension at a more reasonable cap hit. With enough retention he's worth a late 1st + a sweetener as a rental maybe a bit more to a team that believes there's a good chance they'll be able to extend him for less than he makes now.

Dude come on. You don't think teams would want to take a chance on a 90 point player? Getting out of the Toronto spotlight could do wonders for him. Toronto also wouldn't be looking for futures

The problem with that is if he's willing to waive at all it won't be for just any team. Top contenders wouldn't be interested in him other than as a deadline rental a late 1st plus a sweetener is about all they'll pay for a rental. Other teams that will likely be buyers (Sabres, Devils, Wings, Sens for example) tend to have lots of skilled but soft players so they aren't likely to pay much for another of those either especially if he doesn't come with an extension at a more reasonable cap hit.

What teams does that leave who might want to extend him and have the cap space to do it? Basically none.

I don't agree with that. I think the Tkachuk shows that even if a team doesn't seem to have the cap space they will make it.

I think. A team like NYI or Nashville would pay up for him, Winnipeg too

Tkachuk is a unicorn, he does it all and performs in the playoffs. Marner is a soft perimeter player who doesn't perform in the playoffs. When games get tough and physical he disappears. Tkachuk also came with an 8 year extension at a team friendly cap hit.

Who said anything about getting the Tkachuk return? It could be like Binnington + Buchnevech as a base, or like Sorokin 1 for 1. I was referring to the money in - money out of the Tkachuk trade

I'm okay with the MN trade. A little expensive for a 4th liner, but it fills the bottom of the roster/PK (Dewar) spot. It's a cap neutral move that gets Wallstedt into the lineup and MN ends up with a 1st.

All the Flames fans that don't like this trade are crazy.

Marner for Andersson and a throw in, and you get to get rid of a huge anchor.
