My guess is top 12 protected

Schmid and Foote don’t make the Bruins and are pointless adds to this trade. Would rather have a 3rd based on current depth even though I think Schmid is worth a 3rd to another team.

My guess is Boston would prefer an immediate good prospect or a 2024 first

2024 1st vs 2025 1st...very different scenarios

2024 1st:
-- Trade occurs in late June.
-- Top-10 Pick has higher value.
-- Ullmark would be sold as rental, so has a little less value himself.
-- Swayman may not be extended, so Bruins may give up leverage in negotiations him if they trade Ullmark
-- So NJD probably would want something else out of it.

2025 1st:
-- Trade occurs in July
-- After free agency period
-- Fewer other goalies on market
-- Likely after Swayman extends
-- When Ullmark can extend
-- Pick is worth a bit less
-- So BOS probably would want something else out of it

On Schmid.....He is our best prospect goalie, who was rushed to NHL. He is waiver exempt next year, so we can use 2024-25 to develop him in AHL without any worry.

I’d rather have Bussi and a veteran than Schmid, so his inclusion isn’t really a needed. I’ve never seen Foote as anything more than a fringe bottom line player / AHL player. We already have Lauko filling that role.

Topias Vilan is a LHD prospect along with your 2025 first that seems like a reasonable secondary prospect to push an offer over the top. I do think that Boston would rather have another teams 2024 first or a more immediate prospect/ player vs a 2025 first

Not at all. Goalies rarely fetch firsts, the Devils' FO loves Foote, and Schmid is the same guy who beat the rags last year

Goalies the caliber of Ulmark at his age are rarely traded unless teams are cap strapped.

The success level of late firsts are really questionable, People want to talk about the fickleness of goalies. Once you get past the premium players in the draft, it’s an utter crap shoot. It is why good teams are readily willing to give them up for proven players if they have the cap room to do so. I do question how good Jersey actually is. Kind of curious with a lot of young teams, are they a byproduct of overhyped young players or are they good?

I tend to think Jersey is a legit playoff team if they improve their goaltending and pick up another defenseman, but we’ve been hearing for years how close Buffalo, Detroit, Ottawa, and Jersey are. They’ve continued to miss the playoffs outside of last year with Jersey.

Last year, I had numerous discussions wirh Jersey fans about the downside risk of doing nothing at goaltender. It’s a decision and a risk. If anything, I believe your lack of decisiveness in adding a goaltender and one vet defender to replace one of Graves/Siegs was a big reason why Jersey regressed.

Ullmark is not the only option, but I’d argue he is probably the best combination of recent performance / age / reasonable cost to acquire possibility out there

4 mil x 3 for a washed OEL which then blocks Lorhei? More money to Sway than Sorokin just got?

I’m feeling more comfortable with Lohrei after how he’s performing in the playoffs to date. I would like to see a vet D on a short term contract even if it means we pay a bit more as an insurance policy. Personally, I wonder if keeping Ullmark to backup Swayman isn’t the right decision. It works. Its high money, but I think it is prudent to have about 3m in expirings beyond the existing guys personally

Also, I think Witherspoon is showing he can play in the playoffs as well
