And actually, since we're talking current trade value, he's really only a 9 point winger.

Does this sound like a good way of valuing players to you?

You are losing the plot. He's not in the same draft class.

Rossi had more goals and more assists while playing a more important position just this past season. How do you figure?

    Is this your alt account?

Not really Mercer's fault. Team saw a massive dip in production considering Lindy Ruff drove the team into the ground.

No we're finally finding the plot.

You're learning that there's more that goes into value than which player is more proven.

We lost the plot when you jumped on your alt account to try and win a debate lmfao.

Of course there is, but not in this case. Hope this helps!

Not my alt, just another person who's capable of intelligent, nuanced thought.

Fun fact: the NJ Devils goal total dropped by 8.7% from 2022-23 to 2023-24, Mercer's production dropped by 41.1% in that time.

This gave me a laugh. Dude had to hop on his alt account to back himself up. Both accounts are getting ignored.

When you use more than one CF account to win arguments, you're only really arguing with yourself.

I like how I'm the alt account, despite my account being 3 years older than your account. This guy is tilted because we asked for a guy that produced less than Rossi this season...

Yeah well you see the thing is I had yours parked for a few years while I posted on this one, but FlameFlameFruit backed me into a corner, I just had to bring the ol' account back out to win that argument.

I don't need your account anymore though, you can go back into hiding until the next time I'm losing an argument wink

    He’s really not though.

    Rossi-
    Drafted 2020
    Draft class point rank: 18
    GP: 103
    Goals: 21
    Assists: 20

    Holtz-
    Drafted 2020
    Draft class point rank: 22
    GP: 110
    Goals: 19
    Assists: 15

    Mercer:
    Drafted 2020
    Draft class points rank: 5th
    GP: 246
    Goals: 64
    Assists: 67

This is a fair argument. But now breakdown points this year to show trajectory of each player

Mercer did not have a good year by any stretch but was great last year and was stuck playing with mostly guys like Lazar Haula Nosek and McLeod with 2nd unit PP time where as Rossi was STAPPLED to Kaprizov and Zuccarello most of the year. Every NHL GM would take Mercer over Rossi there's no debate. Where as they'd see average skating 5'9 180 pound center vs average skating 6' 195 pound irresponsible goal scoring winger then it really just comes down to what teams need more both are talented but flawed

    That's...not...

Rossi was not STAPLED to Kaprizov in any meaningful way and Zuccarello is downright awful outside of the PP (the fact that you think otherwise already shows me you don't really know much about the Wild outside of stats). Rossi played with Kaprizov at times, most of his even strength time was away from Kaprizov. He also only got PP2 time as well, and our PP2 was putrid.

And if you're going to bring up his time with Kaprizov, we're not going to pretend like Mercer didn't also get pretty significant time with Meier specifically, but also Hischier and Hughes at times.

These two are very equal at this point, and again, Rossi outscored Mercer last season while playing a very responsible two way game at center. Rossi also still has the higher upside.

Mercer's year was substantially more Chaotic and played with far less talent and Meier played the entire year with both MLCs torn a core muscle injury and just had his shoulder reconstructed and same with Hughes who played with a dislocated shoulder all year I wouldn't even compare them to Kaprizov this year

He didn't play with far less talent. Rossi played less than half of his ice time with Kaprizov and that's about it. He played with Boldy for a song. Beyond that, he played with bottom six players. There's not any meaningful difference in quality of linemates between the two, and even if there was, Rossi still outperformed Mercer as would be expected, and did it while playing a harder position as a rookie.

There's no universe here where Mercer is significantly more valuable than Rossi. Mercer had one standout season out of three so far. It's pretty easy to see the caliber of player he is at this point. Rossi has one data point but it's essentially where Mercer is now. With more data points that may change. But until Mercer has another 55+ point season, that's not the norm, that was the aberration.

He had 1 more goal and 6 more assists playing nearly half his ice time with a top 3 winger I'm over this delusion Mercer had a better rookie season 2 years ago this isn't really even debatable enjoy your slow 5'9 center

I'm not mad I'm just not going to argue with a delusional fan about a center 22 year old C who was taken top 10 recently and is on a team that needs a top 6 yet is okay with trading him
