This would be terrible for Chicago. Talk about a Seth Jones 2.0 trade. Pay ALL that just so Marner can hold 100% of the cards and take $12M+ and then we have (2) bad contracts on this team.

Can you explain why you think that? I see it as upgrades for the Hawks in each situation.

On the right track with Marner, not quite enough quality. Murphy is interesting, but I think there are better UFA options they would pursue to improve the blue line. Hall probably not interested in. First and 2nd is good. Reichel is ok but he fits chicagos timeline of success better than Toronto’s

Top 4 RD are going to get north of 8+ mil going forward. The cap is going to continue to rise and in 3 years a 9.5 mil contract will feel like a 6 mil contract.

Marner doesn’t have a bad contract though. He makes pretty much what he deserves

I honestly think the Hawks bust with Reichel and if they can sell him to whoever this year as part of a big move I think they need to.

I'm all for keeping Seth Jones! He provides a vital role on this team as is. He means more to the Hawks than he'd mean to other teams. But let's also keep in mind that in 3 years Seth Jones will be 3 years older too.

It's not what he makes today. It's that he would hold 100% of the cards in any contract negotiation. That's why a Marner to the Hawks trade is just a bad idea. Why give up ANY assets just to give all your negotiation leverage to Marner? It's not like the Hawks next year with Marner are all of a sudden contenders. Just wait until he's a UFA and then go after him...if it HAS to be Marner.

As a Hawks fan that is unfortunately also a default leafs fan because I live in Toronto, there's nothing I would hate more than Marner on this team, he's lazy and whiny, makes others around him worse, and is a total diva. Please please please no Marner.

Marner doesn't fit the Hawks timeline, will be overpaid, and you're leaving multiple holes in the Hawks lineup. Plus giving up draft capital that the Hawks aren't in a position to give up yet.

Trouba is not that good and is nowhere near worth all that. A 1st for him is a non-starter to begin with. AA is one of the few NHL quality players in the lineup and trading him makes an already weak offense even weaker. Make it a 2nd+Raddysh and maybe I could be talked into it. On the plus side, Trouba wouldn't be injuring any more of Chicago's players if he played for the Hawks.

Calling Reichel a bust already is a bit of a stretch. He looked much better after his stint in Rockford and he's looked good at the WC. He probably doesn't even turn into a 70-80 point guy but if he can hit 50ish every year then the Hawks should be keeping him around. I'm not opposed to moving him for the right deal but just tossing him in as a throwaway right now is a complete waste.

I don't think you understand the vision Kyle Davidson has for this team if you think adding a couple of 30 year old bad defensemen and 35 year old wingers then overpaying for a small winger who has made it clear he cares more about money than winning is a "dream offseason". This would be a bowman esque nightmare offseason for this team and would turn them into the Minnesota Wild. Barely making the playoffs and never making it past the 2nd round for the next decade.
