2 top 6 players for an often hurt 2nd pairing dman and a late 1st? No way TOR does that.

DOubt Carolina wants to get rid of one of their really good, cheap, young dman for 1 year of a past his prime winger. They already have Williams.

I'm a Pens fan too, but why Hurricanes would trade one very promise prospect for a rental?? They are not even a contender. No way that happens.

I'm tired of trades involving Maatta. All of you fans are being unfair with him. He's just a 22 kid with a lot of upside. He's more resilient, poise and mature than the most of players on his age. I don't comment none of them anymore.

But think of it like a GM. He's got a 4.1m contract for the next 5yrs that he hasn't grown into yet and we are winning NOW. His cap space makes us able to add more depth including to the center position. He's the most expendable defenseman we have that will fetch a decent return. Letang and Schultz are NOT going to be moved. Dumoulin isn't going anywere. Cole (our most physical Dman) is a UFA after this year and only cost $2.9m right now. So Maatta is the logical one to shop. Just like all of us shopping Sheary. He's going to make $4m + ... would you rather have the cap space for depth or the player with the cap hit?

It's not because either suck. It's because they both have value that can be traded for value and cap space.

Brown and Kadri and their 50 goals fetch a much better return than a meh Dman and high 20s or maybe 31 pick. Kadri and Brown for Schultz and Sheary...at least.

If some team wants brown all it would take 3.9 mill for 5 years maple leafs could not match it and it would cost a 2nd because before they could sign him they would have to put a player on long term ir because 3.9 mill would put them over 10% then now they match they are at 78.9 mill in cap they could put someone else on it before start of the season be a cap 75 mill no room to call anyone up so they would have to let him go or trade someone in the 48 hours and teams would take advantage of them
