Winnipeg would definitely not accept this deal.

If I were Winnipeg I wouldn't trade Ehlers for Ovi straight up. Hard pass

That top-6 is maybe good enough for a 3rd seed or wildcard.

I honestly don't see how the Caps can stay as the top seed this season. BMac screwed up in the offseason.

That's interesting. If I were Winnipeg, I would throw in Byfuglien, Ladd, and a 1st. Yes, Ehlers scored 15 goals and 25 goals in his first two seasons in the NHL. Ovechkin has never scored fewer than 32. In the last four seasons, he's scored 50 or more, three times.

Here are Ehlers' impressive juniors stats, and pretty decent first couple years in the NHL stats: http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=66581 You'll note that in these two years he's got less than half as many goals as Alex Ovechkin (https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/o/ovechal01.html) scored in the last two years, less than half as many as Ovechkin scored in Ovechkin's first two years, or any other two year period of Ovechkin's hockey career, except for 11-12 and the next year, a low point, for sure, when Ovechkin only put up 70 goals across two seasons, and could have been mistaken for Tomas Vanek at his best (https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/v/vanekth01.html).

Vanek and Ehlers are excellent hockey players, and of course Washington would love to have them, as would any club in the NHL. But if I'm Winnipeg, I see this deal offered, and I"m like, "Okay, not bad, but can I throw in Ladd, Byfuglien, and a couple of firsts?"
