A Duchene proposal from STL

Description
I'm no fan of a player who admits quitting on their team. I am also no fan of dumping a lot of prospect value for a guy who could walk in 2 years. Its shocking that it has come to this point for me, but with 3 significant injuries, I'm willing to go this route. And sorry Colorado, you can't have Parayko. The depth chart below shows exactly why this would never be possible, even for Mackinnon. Hell even for McDavid.

The biggest change for the team is that this trade forces Tage Thompson into a full time roll.

That being said, with this proposal, STL manages its long-term contention window with short-term options. As Steen returns from injury, Kostin is sent to AHL (or sent before 10th game - alternating with Blais to manage games played during this time if needed). When Fabbri returns, Blais is returned to AHL. Ideally, Fabbri gets some time as 3C until Berglund returns. When Berglund returns, Megan assigned to AHL. Don't worry Megan, Stastny will miss 15 games and you'll be back. When Boowemeister returns Prosser is sent to AHL, Bortuzzo takes the brunt of press box duties - no benefit to Walman to sit.

This solidifies the STL line up for 2 years and allows Fabbri some time at 3C so a decision can be made on the future.

If another center is injured in this time-frame, Adam Musil is the first call up. If another winger is injured Beau Bennett (long-term) or Jordan Kyrou (short-term, <10g) gets the call. If a defenseman is injured Jordan Schmaltz.

As for Colorado: if you can do better than the value of this proposal, by all means, do that. I doubt that is going to happen.

If this happened, STL becomes very dependent on offense. The team you've all watched win 3-2 will no longer exist. Now its 7-3 - them or us. The team must use speed instead of the fore-check to generate offense.

I would make this trade in a heartbeat which means Sakic says "he'll no!" And laughs at you. They'd want someone like Fabbri or Thompson and Edmundson because Sakic only wants a defenseman with NHL experience

Absolutetly not. I'm not saying they are equals.

McDavid is worth 2 Paraykos.

The problem is STL has literally no RHD depth. None.

If STL traded Parayko and Pietrangelo were injured we'd literally be worst team in the league.

No player in the league, including McDavid, would fix that.

There is no right side top 4 in STL's system who is better than "7th defenseman who manages hotdogs from pressbox". God save us if we need 20 minutes a night from 2 of them. McDavid would demand a trade in year 1.

When I look at their second line of Kerfoot, Duchene, and Yakupov, I think their biggest need is NHL ready 2nd liners. Sobotka and Barbashev are that. And 1 is very young, but proven, and controlled, the other has a much better contract than Duchene himself.

I'm not going to force-sell this to Colorado fans, but if they trade Duchene for a legendary young LHD, having Kerfoot and Yakupov on the 2nd line is going to keep them in the basement of the league. Like even if Colorado gets the McDavid of LHD in a trade they will be awful because they have negative forward depth. Dunn is a legit LHD specimen (AHL ASG as rookie first year, top in points on team as rookie) and Sobotka/Barbashev are both proven, one on good contract one ELC AF.

Imagine game planning against Colorado if they make a Duchene for 1 LHD: the worst team in the league besides them would win with a simple strat: Okay they have 1 line. We'll spread our **** out and win every time.

This isn't a terrible trade but I can't imagine the Blues would entertain any deal involving Sobotka, especially after losing Reaves to Pittsburgh. Blues are really going to miss his gritty play and losing Sobotka on top of that would all but remove all of our bangers around the boards.

Maybe substitute Jaskin or Paajarvi plus a draft pick and I'd think that would be sufficient.
