I'm not big supporter of Tanev becoming a Leaf. But Vancouver would get better offers for Tanev than top prospect and pick in the 50s. If the Canucks wanted just young players from the Leafs it would Kapanan, Dermot and more.

As expected, the Leafs will be an offensive powerhouse this season but are still struggling defensively. Playing Rosen and Borgman instead of the more experienced Marincin-Carrick pair is not something the team can afford this season. We should be 4-0 right now. We can't rely on scoring 7-8 goals every game. Tanev is not the most exciting player but would be a perfect fit to fix the weakness. If Lou can get him for Kapanen and something, it's worth considering it.

Love to get Tanev . You'll need to add one more player to get a 23 man roster.

You can also see this trade as giving up Tanev For the offer + JVR, Bozak and Gardiner, as the leafs wouldn't be able to afford them. Thats why I believe unless Lou buys in this season and gets someone at the deadline (would be a rental IMO), the leafs stay put on their current top 4.
