Pretty even trade, but too much star power involved, too many NTCs to waive, etc.

Yes PalHal, Edmonton immediately gets an elite defensemen and the current PPG leader in the NHL, but this trade is awful for them.

idk they are getting two great players that they need..... crosby is having a bad year but has proven himself more than both those player combined also great mentor for mcdavid. oilers also need an elite d man. i feel its a great trade for both teams going forward.

bc they wouldnt have any flexibility to add to their roster or sign their RFAs since it would kill their cap structure. Its a terrible deal for the long term, too many years and too much cap locked up in guys soon to be going into their 30s when their notrable big name RFAs are coming off their ELCs. Just not smart cap management for the Oilers

coga, thanks for being so logical.
When ever Pens fans talk about their 12th placed team in the Conference, it's always about the their Hall of Famers on the roster or past trophy winners.
When making trades it's about now and future. Sid and Letang's contracts and potential declining play are awful for any team going forward

PalHal... If this were a multi-year "decline" you would be correct... But you're using a less than 35 game sample when the ENTIRE team has struggled to point out "Look, the current point per game leader in the NHL can't play anymore, no one want's his contract".

Sid finished 3rd in scoring last year... The year before that, he won the scoring race by 17 points. It's going to take more than 30 games for me to believe he's declined in production this much without some outlaying factor.

And just FYI, before he got hurt in the last few weeks last year, Letang was up for Norris discussions.
