Love the aggression. Dobson likely gets at least $6 mil per. The ONLY downside to find right off the bat, next year you have to move guys in desperation for cap space to keep others. This roster will look very different next season.

No fan base deserves this more. If their fans weren't so smug with their endless rent free comments and pure denial, I'd feel bad for them. This is the one day of the year that the media doesnt pump their tires and their fans are somewhat quiet.

I could see Toronto eyeing this
It fills in 2 holes and allows them to do work elsewhere

Yeah a beatable lightning team, with vasy playing below his usual level. Not to mention the injuries to point and kuch in game 7.
There were plenty of times in the series where Toronto looked in control, a successful playoff team takes that and runs with it.

If Babcock is Hired
I probably take that if I'm Guerin. I don't really love any of the prospects in this draft past the top 8-10 guys, but that's a good pick and we could always trade up. Fiala and Barzal would be incredible.

If Lou wasnt an idiot
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>editor9999</b></div><div>The Toews trade was kinda inevitable since they were gonna be cap crunched. Although losing Eberle in the expansion draft could have be avoided by just exposing Clutterbuck.</div></div>
Inevitable? I’m so tired of this bull****, so if Isles are in a cap crunch going forward they give away Barzal because he needs a new contract? He could’ve traded away Nick Leddy, Josh Bailey, Cal Clutterbuck, Leo Komarov, Andrew Ladd, Johnny Boychuks contract or even Jordan Eberle, just to keep a young top pair defenseman who signed for 4 million in Colorado. And no he didn’t became a top pair defenseman on Colorado, he already was with Isles. I realize Ladd, Boychuk, Komarovs contracts would be very expensive to get rid of at the time with the dead cap and all but whatever prize you just do it to keep Toews. I’m sure Lou would’ve been able to give away Leddy and Bailey without giving up any assets etc. this narrative that it was inevitable is the most tiresome ever.

islanders fans read this
Not an Isles fan here...but as a NYR fan- am somewhat in tune with what's going on with the Isles. Just seems like a bit of a knee jerk reaction to a perfect storm of reasons for an off season. Did hear of issues between Trotz and Wahlstrom....but didn't realize there were other issues. Hey- it's easier to replace 1 coach than several players- let alone stars like Barzal. But I'd question some of the signings and moves Lou has made- rather than the relationship Trotz has with some players...I really thought it's what Trotz brought which came ever so close to delivering the Cup back to the Island last year (face it- 1 goal shy of TB...beat them , they would have wiped out MTL).

Barry Trotz Fired WHAT is LOU Doing
Love this move actually as a NHL fan, I don't hate the Islanders but they needed to fire Trotz to succeed. We are going to finally see this Islanders team become the fast flowing team they should be. Wahlstrom should be top line IMO with Lee and Barzal. This team has the best goalie duo in the NHL, IMO. Some exciting prospects coming up. Salo and Raty should actually get the playing time they deserve now so it should be fun to watch this team. <a href="/users/AndrewLadd" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@AndrewLadd</a> what's ur thoughts?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Czu8iks</b></div><div>I don't see Varlamov as goalie situation resolution for Sabres, so Buffalo pass. <strong>Certainly not long term!</strong></div></div> <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sabresforlife</b></div><div>I agree with this <strong>Maybe!</strong> ... The NY press has some articles where they are basically saying he shouldn't be a starter and is too expensive to be a backup. <strong>This is of course a huge concern.</strong></div></div> I would make this trade:
First, it is for only one year,
Second, Semyon's SV 0.911 is significantly better than Anderson/Tokarski duo last year 0.898.
Let's presume a team gives up 30 shots per game over 82 games Semyon would give up 219 goals while our best tandem last year would give up 251 goals, 32 fewer goals.
Third, Semyon would be an insurance policy in case Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is not ready for full time NHL action.
Fourth, his salary would help the Sabres to reach the cap floor, while upgrading at the weakest position.
Fifth, if Semyon plays as well next year as he has this year, there will be many teams offering a second round pick for him.
IMO this is a no brainer, Buffalo upgrades their GK while allowing Luukkonen to develop, helps to reach the cap, would get the second back at the end of the year.

Opinion
Sure it’s possible that this happens but this isn’t even a playoff caliber team. Chychrun not likely to play more than 40 games.
All trading Wahlstrom does is cement the fact that Lou/Trotz don’t care about about developing high upside talent. The islanders would have arguably the worst current and long term future in the NHL if this happens.

Now maybe if Dobson plays 24+ mins a night and keeps up his production he can ask for that; but I doubt he’ll play that much for a long time, especially with Pulock and Pelech taking a ton of the minutes</div></div>
I think he’ll have a few years in his prime where he’s top 10, but for the majority of it he’ll be a top 15-20 Caliber D.
Dobson usually plays more than Pelech +Pulock.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>It’s not. For a good defence you will need to spend 4-5M, backup is a few million as is depth. The islanders have one of the best top pairs locked in for the next 7 years and Noah Dobson who's been a top pair D this season. Their top 4 is already set next season:
Pelech-Pulock
Salo(900k)- Dobson (4-5 mill)
? - Mayfield
They need 4-5 mill to fill out their 3rd pair LD?
