That's how contract hardball works. If the trade wasn't "imminent," there wouldn't be much incentive for Vilardi to relent.

Im replacing Robert Blake
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Artman91</b></div><div>So you're saying he's equivalent to 3 1st round picks?</div></div>
We just don't have any reason to move him at all unless the offer is a serious overpay. Briere loves TK and I know he would much rather keep him, because he's only a year or 2 older than what we consider our "young guys" like Frost/Tippett/Cates/York. Unless TK requests a trade we don't have to trade him for a package like this.

Eh... that isn't what I take from that trade at all. Just more trade bait and a means of getting to the cap floor. Also, a former 1st overall pick and talented veteran to mentor and play with Bedard.

Many fake rumors out there saying the “deal is close.” However it is not. I’m not saying a deal won’t happen within the next couple days but as of yesterday they were still miles apart.</div></div>
Yeah. They could be waiting on more market setting developments and whatnot before they finalize a deal, which I fully expect the market will become clearer before the draft.

PLD for Vilardi 1-for-1 wouldn't be a terrible trade, especially if Vilardi isn't interested in a bridge deal.

Any source that tries more so to be first rather than correct.. I dont trust. The legit insiders build their rep on their outstanding consistency. Fraudgnotta seems to be consistently controversial, if anything.

Kings will be getting at least 5 years on that contract if it happens, but don’t hold your breath. The only person unrelated to the Jets that has said it’s close is Pagnotta, who also said Chychrun to LA was a done deal at the deadline last year.

Would really like to add Grundstrom to the Jets but would like to keep Dillon, think the Jets should extend him if he wants to stick around.

Aside from the fact that we wouldn't include Gabe Vilardi in a Dubois deal, how do we fill 8 roster slots, including a starting goalie, with $6 million?

I'm not a fan of trading Iafallo to overpay aging 4th liners. I'd rather run with kids on ELCs and keep Iafallo around.

The only way you're getting PLD to agree to a contract with a ~6M cap hit is on his qualifying offer for 1 year.

That's not true. The team that acquires him can trade him immediately, they just can't trade him back to the team that he was on (or any team he was on within the previous 12 months).

these guys desperately need to tear it all the way down
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Artman91</b></div><div>I don’t see the Oilers making a run at Karlsson. Edmonton already lacks draft picks and yet they have to give a second plus two first and a prospect. Karlsson isn’t guaranteeing them a cup and they sacrifice a good chunk of their future.</div></div>
Plus they don't have the cap space. This deal has them taking on more than $1M in extra cap and they now need to replace Yamamoto on the roster. Not a chance they can do that with an $83.5M limit.
Besides, Karlsson just isn't worth $7M to them when they already have Bouchard on the roster.

This is what I would do
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Artman91</b></div><div>To my fellow Kings fans, especially oldNYIfan, I obviously don’t want to trade Iafallo or Arvidsson. Especially Iafallo but it’s extremely tough not to when we need to sign a #1 Goalie and resign Vilardi. I would prefer Vilardi over Iafallo. With our salary circumstances it would be near impossible to have a “better” team on paper compared to previous season. Our key for this season is Byfield. He needs to step up big time! Kaliyev needs to have a consistent season, Fiala needs to stay healthy, we have to hope Turcotte can overcome is injuries and develop. He needs to be at the worst a decent 4th liner. Clarke needs to step up and have “Rookie of the year” type season. Schenn and Lucic have to show others that we’re not scared to throw the body. Jarry needs to have his best season of his career. Kopitar and Doughty must maintain last season numbers or better. Vilardi and Kempe need to continue their offensive forces. Moore needs to have a bounce back season.</div></div>
Thanks for the thoughtful shout-out.
I really like your explanation here and your strategic plan. I'm with you right up to Tristan Jarry, who isn't the answer, in my opinion. It will be interesting to see how Rob Blake addresses the problem. The Boston guys are always trading us Linus Ullmark for Sean Durzi and something, so it will be interesting to see whether he's really on the market. I think that we have a sufficient number of quality forwards that we don't have to make all of those moves (two free-agent signings and the Kubalik trade). I'd be happy to get the Edmonton first from Nashville rather than #15 because I think that that's where the LhD prospects will start showing up and I think that's much more likely to be within our reach. But it's clear to me that you're absolutely right, that to solve our roster and cap problems, one of Arvidsson or Iafallo has to go. It's a reality we have to face.

Id like durzi to Detroit honestly, I'd do a pair of 2nds or kubalik and a pick for durzi and iaffalo or Arvidsson maybe.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Artman91</b></div><div>To be honest I don’t think Jarry is bad. Maybe a 5M x 3 is more reasonable? What do you think?</div></div>
2 years ago he made the All-Star game, and he has been a starter for a while, so it's not like he isn't worth considering. But to me he seems more like a solid 1B than a 1A on a contender. You definitely don't want to be paying your backup 5m for multiple years, and that is what I think you'd be signing up for with 5x5. If you all are desperate to make a push now, 5x3 works. 4x4 might be even better.
